I’m honestly speechless. What a complete embarrassment. How can she look back at that and feel comfortable I wonder.

Absolutely - when your actions are giving Ted Cruz the moral high ground (and as he so eloquently illustrates going to destroy women's sports) you wonder just HOW you can carry on with the delusion.

Not really a fan of Ted Cruz in general, but honestly, they're making it so easy for men like him to make them look like craven idiots.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/06/2023 09:41

Surely you must know what kind of questions someone like Cruz is going to ask, what kind of direction they will take! I can figure that out, as a British person with no skin in the US political game. Why not try to prepare a better more succinct answer?

Of course, it doesn't help that she's trying to defend an illogical position.

Because there is no succinct answer other than 'we do want to destroy women's sports because letting men with a fetish have whatever they want is more important than women'.

Or, you know. 'men are more important than women who don't deserve human rights or anything for themselves'.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/06/2023 09:55

I wish that people defending that position would just come out and say it as clearly as that. That womens sports (rights) are just lesser than the wants of trans identified men. It really is as simple as that, and they should be brave enough to own up to it.

RudsyFarmer · 22/06/2023 09:57

This almost reminds me of an MLM trying to convince a committee how it’s not a pyramid scheme 🤣

Riley Gaines's example of how when she and Thomas (a foot taller with his male lung capacity and body) DREW he got the trophy instead of her shows it for the Talibanesque men's rights movement it is.

They only want to keep women's sports for the validation / access to unconsenting females.

Abusive through and through.

She wants that job title and she wants that money so she's happy to believe anything that gets it for her.

Transparent2 · 22/06/2023 11:27

I think it’s a pity he interrupted to quickly and persistently. She was trying to answer a different question to the one he was asking; it might have been better to let her get a bit further with her waffle and then point out her evasiveness. Unfortunately he came across as the man he is! But his questions were incisive.

bundevac · 22/06/2023 11:45

this look like mansplaining to me. a (white) man explaining something to a (black) woman in a condescending, overconfident, and often inaccurate or oversimplified manner.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/06/2023 11:48

Yes, he was hectoring her somewhat, but she was consistently not answering the clear and straightforward question, preferring to deflect by trying to launch into a lengthy exposition.

@bundevac what was inaccurate or oversimplified in what Cruz was asking?

How is it "oversimplified"?

Just say, "yes there is a difference between men and women".

Or if your gender ideology will not allow you to say that, then, "there is a difference between biological males and biological females, and so obviously that's why we have the female sport category".

She was trying to bring up gender. But we don't divide sports because of gender or gender identity. We divide sports because of biological sex.

I saw two people, one of whom happened to show an awareness of the importance of fairness in women's sport, and one who couldn't answer a straight question as to why we have women's sporting categories in the first place. Their sex and their colour was irrelevant.

NotHavingIt · 22/06/2023 12:16

Making. a tit of yourself is an equal opportunities activity.

NotBadConsidering · 22/06/2023 12:17

How is it mansplaining to ask for a question to be answered?🤣🤣

What's actually happening is a TRA who is used to not answering the question but in places like Senate judiciary committees they actually have to.

NotBadConsidering · 22/06/2023 12:21

I hadn’t considered larynx size before strangely. Flow through airways is determined by Poiseuille’s Law where the radius to the power of 4. A 40% increase in larynx size reduces airflow almost by 4 times. It’s huge!

definition is from wikipedia. my english is far from perfect but it seems to me that everything after "often" is not necessary for something to meet the criteria. also, the way he talked to her could be seen as condescending and overconfident especially "just answer the question" part.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/06/2023 12:53

@bundevac he wasn't explaining anything to her. He was asking her a question and getting frustrated with her refusal/inability/reluctance to answer and her tendency to want to launch into other areas that he wasn't asking about. That's not mansplaining.

RoseslnTheHospital · 22/06/2023 12:55

This persistent idea that people with a DSD ("intersex") are some kind of third sex category is deeply irritating.

NotBadConsidering · 22/06/2023 12:57

John Kennedy is mostly very good with his questioning. It’s spot on what he says at the end: if she can’t concede there are differences in sport between males and females, she does her case harm, and why should anyone believe the rest of her testimony?

Hepwo · 22/06/2023 14:42

It's good hearing them talk rubbish in the Senate. They tell each other this rubbish all the time and have no idea how stupid they are.

If you are a confident person then you are a confident person. If you are evasive then you are evasive. I guess the temptation to sarcasm and condescension must be strong when someone is so wilfully wriggling away from the issue and talking nonsense.

It doesn't need to be dissected anymore than that.

Yes, as far as that goes, but filling lungs (and emptying them) is also a function of the sizes of all the bronchi and alveolar sacs. Apologies if my terminology is naive, I’m not a biologist. So the effect of larynx size may not be quite so huge - but presumably it’s significant.
