Do I submit it as sex-based instead?

I don't need this job, but would it be wrong?

Often gender-based violence is used because it prevents the term getting mixed up with sex attacks like sexual assault and rape.

They've started calling it GBV to obscure the fact that they're almost always talking about male violence against women and girls

The minutes will have to be approved. I also think the Chair has the power on this, not the Minutes taker.

You could interject and say you had assumed that the Gender comment was related to sex, but for the purpose of clarification could the person who said it explain if it was related to SGBV and have the minutes reflect that.

In general, I would use the term MVAWG - male violence against women and girls. But I think in minutes you need to reflect what was said and not impose your own values. I recently chaired a meeting and the minute taker had referred to everyone as 'they' even though nobody had said this was their pronoun. I was annoyed and changed it all before signing off on the minutes.

It was called GBV long before the gender identity stuff became such a thing.

I’ve trained many hundreds of minute-takers. A minute is a summary of the discussion, decisions and actions required. Only in verbatim minutes are actual words used. If the minute-taker is unsure what words or phrases to include, they should flag this to the Chair who has ultimate responsibility for the accuracy of the minutes.

Minute-takers shouldn’t interrupt a meeting to ask for clarification. The usual protocol is to raise it with the chair either directly after the meeting or later.

Maybe write 'Gender [sic] based violence'?
