I'm nearly shaking, which is ridiculous, but just spoke with a canvassing labour MP candidate, and I thought Id be a coward not to ask. First asked about thoughts on Rosie Duffield, and the female canvasser Saud didn't know his views so went and got candidate.I did interprupt when he framed it as "trans rights",and said I was talking about women's rights. Agreed on respect for people with genuine dysphoria, he did go the "more light less heat" route, which I agreed with by saying " yes, you mean the death threats jk Rowling gets?"(🤣🤣I know it was naughty, but was on a role). I think I may of lost him with asking his view after the Westminster hall debate clarifying sex means biological sex. But overall felt good, though after agreeing it's important on being able to have respectful debate, the fact I said thank you for not calling me names on this probably shows where the states of affairs has got. Hope enough people can do this so they know the breadth of feeling, but it was nerve jangling!🤣🙃

Well done! Flowers

Good for you. Of course, Starmer claims that nobody ever mentions this 😑

Helleofabore · 20/06/2023 20:33

brilliant work. Once you do it once, it becomes easier. And do mention it in door stop campaigning, because they cannot say that they don’t get asked.

ValancyRedfern · 20/06/2023 20:37

Well done!

QueenHippolyta · 20/06/2023 20:39

I'm proud of you OP, we women are socialized not to make waves or be 'loud' , (gods forbid;-)
So it's great you overcame your fear and enforced socialization!!

LOUD WOMEN ARE GODDESSES!

OldGardinia · 20/06/2023 20:40

Congratulations. You know the best thing? Next time you debate someone on it you'll find it easier still.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/06/2023 20:44

Can't remember the last time I saw a Labour canvasser (former red wall constituency, now Conservative). They are going to have to try a lot harder.

Rightsraptor · 20/06/2023 21:18

👏👏👏👏

Crouton19 · 20/06/2023 21:44

OP, are you in a by-election area or was this general canvassing?

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/06/2023 22:03

Since I mentioned it to Labour Party canvassers they have never returned. DH thinks they have put a secret mark on our wall. The woman claimed not to have a clue what I was talking about, but when I asked her if she would be prepared to share a hospital ward with Eddie Izzard she said no.
They never returned even though we have had a by-election

Well done!!

We are in a by election area. No canvassers yet, to my massive disappointment.

DH got a letter "from" Kier Starmer. I didn't. Even though we are both on the electoral roll. Almost as if Labour don't bother about women....

FemaleAndLearning · 20/06/2023 22:16

Fab, well done!

OliviaFlaversham · 20/06/2023 22:18

When I’ve mentioned it to door to door canvassers, they’ve genuinely not had a clue what I’m on about. And look shocked when I explain.

ArabeIIaScott · 20/06/2023 22:20

Fan-bloody-tastic, OP. Flowers

Don't worry. Your DH will tell you how to vote (in Labour world).

RedToothBrush · 20/06/2023 22:23

So when Starmer / another Labour rep says 'this subject doesn't come up on doorsteps' we know to ping you on this thread?

I mentioned it a while ago to Lib Dem canvasser and it was basically 'yes I agree with everything you are saying but I have to tow the line'.

No. No they don't have to tow the line.

They make a choice to ',just follow orders' and decide that it's not important enough to them.

Don't take that line. It's bullshit.

IcakethereforeIam · 20/06/2023 22:37

Oh, the old 'just following orders' defence.

Well done OP.

Yes I had one a bit like this too, he didn't quite say that he had to toe the line but did seem to actually agree with me on most things, plus I told him about a few things he hadn't been aware of and he seemed quite shocked - but was still supporting the candidate who clearly had different views... Hope I may have made him think a bit more though.

I also had a guy from the Green Party phone me up... he got told a lot of few things too 😂

ScrollingLeaves · 20/06/2023 23:11

Well done, you should be proud of yourself!

It’s so marvellous when another woman steps up.

KCandtheSunlightBand · 21/06/2023 08:01

Well done Bluelagoon16. Just adding my experience, so that Starmer can be directed to this thread and realise what is happening.

In recent local elections I spoke to a Labour Party candidate, who had heard about the issues, went some way to dealing with my concerns but not far enough. For the first time ever I didn’t vote.
He missed election by 6 votes. I know of three lost votes, including mine, all from long standing LP members, who could not bring ourselves to vote for a party that don’t know what a woman is. Maybe there were other voters who felt the same and didn’t vote, or voted for the winning (Tory) candidate instead.

It has been raised on the doorstep, you do know.
