Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Hoppinggreen · 20/06/2023 12:28

The reason he had to apologise was that large parts of the community he serves are homophobic so if he ever wanted to be re elected he had to.
So basically he was doing what kept his head in the trough not what was right
If he hadn’t wanted to be involved with raising the flag due to his own personal beliefs he should have conveniently had to be elsewhere

ZeldaFighter · 20/06/2023 12:31

This is really sad. I'm alarmed by some of the ways that gender ideology operates in the real world but I support and value our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. It's sad to see homophobia alive and well 😞

DysonSpheres · 20/06/2023 12:35

Can someone explain what the triangular parts of the flag mean?

Blackbyrd · 20/06/2023 12:38

Certain sectors of society only believe in equality when it benefits them

littleripper · 20/06/2023 12:46

Homophobia vs Gender Woo
This is what this has led to
An utter abandonment of the same sex attracted people who had to fight tooth and nail for their place in rural Yorkshire.
Hebden Bridge is a few miles down the road.

It’s a million miles away from Keighley in everything other than geography

The pink and blue is trans
The brown and black are for 'people of colour'
What race has to do with pride I was unsure, so I asked and I was told that gay communities were often racist so this was to be inclusive.
How the ethnic minority communities that are homophobic are being addressed is less clear. As this absurd debacle proves:

What Do the Colors of the New Pride Flag Mean?

The new pride flag is called the Progress Pride Flag, and it's meant to be more inclusive of POC and trans people. Learn all about the colors of the new pride flag.

I was racially abused in Hebden Bridge and my brother suffered homophobic abuse including being pushed over in Hebden Bridge. There is currently a very heated and nasty argument about trans rights and GC beliefs being hashed out on the towns website. It is no utopia!

I never said it was, just that it’s very different to Keighley

RealityFan · 20/06/2023 14:24

Wow! Where intersectional grievance politics comes to die. Basically, prejudice never went away. It's stayed the same, and now has a new virulent mutation.

It's always been there in the millennia-old homophobia of two main established religions.

And just when you thought we'd turned a corner on this shit, up pops trans activism to create a new wave of homophobia.

I would say "you can't make it up"...well, you can't!

Thank you!

So it's all encompassing then and more about sexual expression than anything rooted in biology.

Even I'm included by proxy of skin tone.

I guess it is a natural evolution however and it seeks to gather support through inclusion.

QueenHippolyta · 20/06/2023 15:21

It's a bunch of crap. The old flag was fine.
Gay and Lesbian and Bisexual people are of every ethnicity

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/06/2023 16:19

I don’t like that particular version of the Pride flag, but the apology/resignation stuff is a bit fucking extreme.

margaretatwoodslefteyebrow · 21/06/2023 11:41

@Hoppinggreen I agree. I live a few miles from Keighley and you couldn't get a more opposite place to Hebden. Like many previously thriving industrial communities, poverty pervades vs the largely middle class Brighton of the North.
Sadly there will be many many LGB Asians living under his mayorship that will feel even more silenced in the community they call home.

Meanwhile in Michigan : ‘A sense of betrayal’: liberal dismay as Muslim-led US city bans Pride flags | Michigan | The Guardian

This isn't an issue of Muslims or gay people. Its what happens when you forget that the basis of a properly pluralistic society has to be tolerance at its most basic level, not enforced celebration or a hierarchy of identities or a naïve idea that all "oppressed" people are the good guys and naturally on the same side as each other.

‘A sense of betrayal’: liberal dismay as Muslim-led US city bans Pride flags

Many liberals celebrated when Hamtramck, Michigan, elected a Muslim-majority council in 2015 but a vote to exclude LGBTQ+ flags from city property has soured relations

When did they remove gay, lesbian and bi people from pride?

WhyDontYouGoVegan · 21/06/2023 18:36

Cut out the triangle.

IcakethereforeIam · 21/06/2023 19:21

I'm sure I read somewhere, something about the later iterations of the flag being....copywrited(?). I think you may have to pay to use them, unlike the original.

I'm not 100% sure though.
