Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/06/2023 12:35

He has a point.

It's not transphobic to state that men have penises and women have vaginas.

The fact that some women and (many) men choose to act as though biological sex can change doesn't make it true.

PitYacker · 19/06/2023 12:37

I didn't get that at all. I took it to be a joke that clearly if people think women have a penis they should do biology. Nowhere did i read he wants to actually put this into practice.

I heard him say this on the recording and I took it that he was joking and not seriously meaning they should implement this.

But maybe biology to GCSE should be compulsory.

"According to the LGBT+ news outlet, the footage is from the prime minister's speech at a party with the 1922 Committee on 5 June 2023.

Addressing Tory MPs, Mr Sunak appeared to make transphobic jokes about “women having penises” and mocked Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey for his support of the queer community.

"I’m a big fan of everybody studying maths to 18, but it turns out that we need to focus on biology" he appears to say, to laughter from the crowd. "

He's got a point to be fair if you think a woman can have a penis you need more biology lessons.

Is biology to GCSE really not compulsory? I mean A-level is probably too tough but GCSE should be essential.

Aye but they're learning alternative facts these days.

I think GCSE science is compulsory, but that can be combined science rather than individual ones.

Datun · 19/06/2023 13:22

He'll have to make sure that the biology being taught isn't all about respecting cat genders or that some people have both sex organs, first.

I'm not entirely convinced that Rishi grasps the scale of this problem yet.

Yes, and if you don’t take combined science you can take just one science, Physics or Chemistry, or that used to be the requirement.

There would need to be one scientifically rigorous syllabus for compulsory GCSE Biology though or some boards might get captured and talk about ‘assigned at birth’ and ‘gender identities’ and ‘Intersex’.

I can't help but feel this is a bit of an own goal for whoever leaked this to PinkNews.

The Evening Standard reported it more accurately as "the prime minister mocked the other party leaders’ stance on trans issues", as opposed to framing this as him mocking trans people.

How have we got to the point whereby the Independent is reporting that PinkNews (who accuse everyone of transphobia for everything) have groundlessly accused someone of transphobia?

I get that it's a great clickbaity story, but it also feels like a way to keep everyone in line and intimidate us all into staying silent by calling out the most mundane examples of disparagement or questioning as worthy of condemnation.

Also, if the science on gender ideology is so robust, how come it's so well hidden? I have an intro to psychology book where they were obviously so scared to explain the psychology around this issue that the section on gender in the book simply has a paragraph stating that Jazz Jennings exists. That's literally all it says on the topic.

I'm pretty sure most of the trans people I know don't actually believe the narrative that if a man feels like a woman then his penis is automatically a woman's penis. When politicians say silly things like that, they should be called out on it, as it's actually those kinds of batshit statements that make a mockery of transgender people and the genuine struggles they go through with gender dysphoria.

Rishi Sunak’s trans voting history after leaked video jokes at private party

At least 100 Conservative MPs were at the event at which the prime minister mocked the other party leaders’ stance on trans issues

Isn't this the 3rd thread about this?

But agree about learning biology. It made me remember hearing from a female relative at school in the early 60s that thought it was inappropriate for teenage girls to study biology but were allowed to study botany!!
