No Terfs on our Turf

Just went past a small independent bookshop in Cardiff which had this delightful message written on the window.

Based on the pictures on their Instagram, just on the link posted here, the "no TERFS on our turf" comment directly conflict with/contradicts several of their other slogans painted on the doors and windows - namely "Pride is for everyone and don't let anyone tell you any different!" which I assume is in support of the lesbians and others who have been bullied away from Pride by alleged "TRAs", and "No cops at Pride" (referring to police arresting lesbians for attending) and "All welcome here!" Further, "To all our queer friends and family!", "you are enough", "you are loved" and "we celebrate you" suggest they DO want to be inclusive and NOT misogynist and lesbophobic/homophobic despite what the TERF comment says. There's even a very "TERFy" "no thanks!" in there.

Perhaps a rogue child got a hold of the paints and made the bigoted, exclusionarly "no TERFS" comment, and no one in chage has noticed yet?

I'm dubious about anyone in the UK using the old-fashioned "turf" to mean neighbourhood.

I first read it in the evangelical books about the New York teenage gangs in the 50s (The Cross and the Switchblade, Run Baby Run). Mind you, those kids were stabbing each other. They were anti-police, too.

I suppose the modern day ones want to seem edgy. Weird that they'd appropriate 50s gang culture, though. Do they have anything that isn't second hand?

Can you give us a definition of TERF please?

Anyone who thinks sex is real, that males in women's sport is grossly unfair, that rapists can identify out of a men's jail and are persecuted if forced to stay there and that middle aged men getting their wangers out around young girls in changing rooms is massively 'off'?

Just so we know where we all stand.

Cos if you define it like that, you end up being the ones who look like a bunch of cockends.

The only investment I'd make with this shop is popping in to tell the manager what I thought of his discriminatory policy and how it's breaking the law, and how I'd publicise the shop policy to high heavens to get maximum fallout.

This is how I think it has to go. As each court case (like Maya's and Bindel's various) inches policy towards sanity, individual episodes on the battlefield of TRA versus reality will still explode like IEDs in a real war.

Tbh, seeing as it's quite a Stonewally slogan, I'd probably ask them if they agree with Stonewall that it's morally unsound to be sexually orientated towards one sex.

I went to Cardiff recently and it was honestly crazy, I left angry and anxious because of the level of this nonsense everywhere! I only live 30mins away from there, but it's worlds apart from my quiet, sleepy little valley town!
