The backlash begins, but I am surprised that Starbucks would be one.
Though I did walk past my local one today and it was completely empty.

Well - that's a turn up for the books as they say!

WhyThatsDelightful · 13/06/2023 22:57

Starbucks are very invested in the child side of Pride. They’ve been funding Mermaids for a long time.

Jennie, aged 11, is still on the Mermaids site today.

Well there is a massive boycott culture in the USA & it has caught on here big time.
Pride is a non event... Many posters are posting how little attention it's getting. Many highstreet brands & stores seem to be steering clear. Nowt on windows & no rainbow displays or flags.
It's all about Fathers Day this month. Family celebration.

I have gay friends with a gorgeous little baby, they can't wait to celebrate Fathers Day on Sunday!

DiabolicalFinial · 14/06/2023 04:04

Every time I see that photo, I feel horrified - a real visceral reaction. It sums up everything wrong with this whole real-life nightmare.

xabia · 14/06/2023 07:15

Well thanks to the T and Q etc I now feel sick when I see a rainbow. So sad for LGB - perhaps they should think about having a different symbol.

Cheeriosaygoodbye · 14/06/2023 07:30

Boycott culture is so powerful.. It's funny how they delete their tweets so quickly when the backlash comes eg Innocent smoothies... But they didn't take ownership... Oh no... They said they deleted their tweets as the comments didn't match their "values".. Again patronising their customers & followers.
Innocent smoothies could easily have turn off the comments under their post but no they wanted to limit their damage control by deleting their tweet which had been screenshot hundreds of times anyways...
I will never ever give a penny to Nike, Bud Lite, Oxfam or Innocent smoothies ever again.

Corporations don't care about people - they support whatever makes them the most money. For a while that was Pride. But now it's been hijacked by the TRA and we are all seeing the dodgy as fuck effects on children and the erosion of women's rights, many people can't see Pride anymore without it being tainted. It's no longer an automatic money spinner for the likes of Starbucks.

I feel so sad for all the LGB people who have been dragged down by this shit. The rainbow is toxic now.

Cheeriosaygoodbye · 14/06/2023 08:15

@LadyBird1973 t
It's profit before pride.
So many of lgb community do not support Pride as it no longer represents them. The big corporations know this & are distancing themselves.
Local businesses are the same. Very little pride stuff up in little cafes, hairdressers or boutiques. Businesses are reading the room.

orangegato · 14/06/2023 08:21

I used to spend a good chunk of my wage in body shop years ago, before they told JKR to educate herself. Not a fucking dime from me since, I bet it all adds up.

Starbucks can get on my list too. The brands who keep their mouths shut will be quietly chuckling. Stop letting wokey interns run your twitter lol it’s expensive.

orangegato · 14/06/2023 08:30

If I see a rainbow in the window of a shop I’m going somewhere else. I feel sorry for the LGB who have been lumped in with this circus.

You can add Adidas to that too with the bloke modelling a women’s swimsuit.

I guess it’s saving me money?

StylishM · 14/06/2023 08:41

I'm bisexual and have many LGB friends. The only people I know who've gone to Pride parades this year and the younger people in my office who went to get smashed and party, not because of their Pride.

There's a local Lesbian/bisexual women's speed date event that's had to try and navigate the no-penis bearing 'wimmin' and it makes me furious. How DARE men try and infiltrate our communities and force themselves (literally) down our throats,

I'm glad the tide is turning but how many vulnerable children and young adults have been swept up in this tide of shit? Sad

KohlaParasaurus · 14/06/2023 08:41

At the moment I'm spending a lot of time visiting a large NHS hospital in Scotland. There's no Pride regalia in the public parts or exterior of the building.

Stumbled across this guy on YouTube talking about video game players boycotting and berating the “Call of Duty” franchise when it dropped a popular streamer after he tweeted "They should leave little kids alone", in response to a tweet supporting a USA School Board voting to make June "Pride Month".

Call Of Duty DELETES TWEET, Activision TURNS OFF Replies After MASSIVE Backlash | It Gets WORSE

This story in the LA Times about the boycott can't seem to keep to the party line that it's just "handfuls" of "homophobes" who are up in arms about . . . sexualisation of little kids.

How do they not see that they are the ones being homophobic when they claim that it is "homophobic" to say that sexualising kids is a bad thing??

‘Call of Duty’ faces backlash for removing streamer against LGBTQ+ school policies

https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2023-06-13/call-of-duty-nickmercs-controversy-timthetatman-lgbtq-glendale-school

First line reads:

"Handfuls of players have vowed to uninstall “Call of Duty,” days after the popular video game franchise removed a streamer from its online store for his comments about LGBTQ+ policies in school."

Towards the end of the article:

"As prominent streamers voiced their support for Nickmercs, some of “Call of Duty’s” millions of global players seemingly began uninstalling various installments of the popular franchise from their consoles."

In the middle of the article, "queer kids" FFS!! And the "Bud Light of video games" . . .

“Good on @CallofDuty for calling him out on his homophobia, removing his s— from the game, and protecting queer kids,” wrote one Twitter user and Twitch content creator.

Elsewhere in the replies, Nickmercs’ followers and supporters chided “Call of Duty” for its decision. Some said it was “f— up,” and another Twitter user said “Call of Duty” is the “Bud Light of video games,” — seemingly referring to the beer company’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

The arseholes should just stick to selling the bloody coffee and not lecturing us.

bit by bit it’s backfiring.

Whatwouldscullydo · 15/06/2023 06:31

Companies really should just remain neutral. They will have customers with all sorts of views. Many of which may not be things everyone agrees with but they are entitled to have them/think them. Its not the job of staff to preach to people just trying to buy a latte.

All customers have to do is , behave. No abuse towards staff or customers. Pay for their stuff. Not make a mess/trash the place and hopefully say please and thank you. No one gets to choose who walks through the door. And no company has the right to inflict their views on the customers who are quietly going about their lives and just wanted their breakfast muffin.

Anyone who only wants to serve a select group of people who think the way they do and holds the same " acceptable " views should probably not get a job in retail or hospitality. Because if you do then provided customers behave themselves on the premises you will find yourself serving all sorts. Changing their thinking is beyond the remit of all of us in retail. " thank you have a good day" is all we need to say .
