At public school Wellington College next month. Not ‘Suzy’ but referred to as ‘she’ in the blurb.

Given the huge proportion of single-sex schools in the independent sector, it might be interesting to know what EI is going to say at this.

Eddie Izzard | Festival of Education

@IcakethereforeIam i had exactly the same thought about the lipstick.
It's almost as if it's all performative and for show....

MrsJamin · 12/06/2023 10:22

Their announcement tweet about him went down terribly over 2 months ago - https://twitter.com/EducationFest/status/1640978345859993600 - why are they sticking to their guns and having him there? Surely they know there will be questions asked right then and there?

Does Eddie identify as an educator now, too?

My thoughts exactly.

piedbeauty · 12/06/2023 11:04

What absolute bollocks. What educational value will Izzard add???

MillbankTower · 13/06/2023 11:59

Chris Packham is there as well.

If you are aggrieved book and ticket and go. It is a very open event- speakers walk around and you can access them directly- there is alway an open Q and A.

MrsJamin · 30/06/2023 09:47

Is anyone going to this?
The blurb in the agenda says:
"In conversation with Eddie Izzard
As parliamentarians debate the content of sex and relationships education and culture war rages on social media about ‘trans rights’, Eddie Izzard joins the Festival of Education to discuss her educational journey and the importance of inclusive and welcoming school cultures. Look out. She has a flag!"
How belittling of this massive issue by calling it a 'culture war'. "She" has a bloody flag... so what? How does that give EI the right to tell educational professionals how we should pretend sex doesn't exist and we should be allowing children to identify however they like and not to tell the parents?
My guess is EI will not somehow be able to manage this as this issue has been raging since that video of the girls challenging the teacher in the classroom.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/06/2023 09:50

Does that mean they'll be a Q&A? I suspect the audience might be invited to write their questions down so they can be prevetted. It'll be Izzard on a stage with some sycophant. I imagine it'll be very entertaining Hmm

MagpiePi · 30/06/2023 09:51

Look out. She has a flag’

A big red one?

‘Watch out she has a flag.’ Is this a reference to a routine like, ‘death or cake?’ Can’t have much experience of education in recent years. Can’t see the wisdom of this choice unless was only comedian with space in the diary who fits the category.

"Watch out she (he) has a flag" is the warning shout all women & girls should yell out as they spot the AGP man displaying his manhood as part of a sexual paraphilia. These men can fuck off. Why can't they be accommodated in the male changing room as a subset of males. Male culture needs to adapt to absorb these men. Women and girls are not comfort blankets.

Do women cycle in Central London in a miniskirt? Anyone raised a woman would avoid the cat calling that would ensue and the discomfort of trying to cycle without ending up with your knickers on full view. Totally playing at it for effect. Not a woman - a man in women's clothes. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12248073/Suzy-Eddie-Izzard-opts-orange-mini-skirt-cropped-denim-jacket-bike-ride.html

Suzy Eddie Izzard opts for an orange mini skirt for a bike ride

The comedian, 61, donned an orange mini skirt and a cropped denim jacket as she wheeled the bike out of the bracket before heading off.

So not an ‘educationfest’, more an ‘indoctrination fest’!

It's no wonder that Independent schools seem to be at the forefront of the "identifying as a cat" nonsense .
Looking at that lineup, it seems that groups of adult lobbyists are being given an invitation to gaslight children into believing they've been born in the wrong body.
Independent schools have been particularly vulnerable to people who do harm to children infiltrating them (looking at the history of investigations /serious case reviews involving the independent sector). I'm surprised to see so many adult organisations that openly lobby to remove certain features of safeguarding as well as openly working to foster a hostile environment for girls and women being invited to share their niche adult ideology with schools 🤔

Just saw this story with the accompanying lovely pictures.
THIS is how you tell these people are not women.
A woman would never do this.

Thee little letters that we are not allowed to say.

I’d have thought the lovely Eddie would have preferred “comedienne and actress”, as they’re keen on females tropes.

Clymene · 01/07/2023 07:03

Loads of independent schools rely heavily on students from outside the U.K. whose parents want an English education for their children. I wonder how this goes down with them?

@MrsJamin Love that photo as a clear demonstration of what women wear when cycling round a city. Rucksack and flat-soled shoes and bottom halves that aren’t going to chafe or need adjusting to get comfy. Nothing to get in the way or cause problems.
