Prejudiced and hysterical (Biden)

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 09/06/2023 00:42

I'm appalled (but not surprised) that objecting to the erosion of women's rights and children's safeguarding is now classed as prejudiced and hysterical according to the US president:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12175401/amp/Biden-calls-critics-transgender-surgeries-care-hysterical-prejudiced.html

Biden calls critics of transgender surgeries and care 'hysterical' and 'prejudiced': President tears into 'hateful' anti-LGBTQ laws and says it's 'wrong' that you can be fired in the US for being gay

Joe Biden reiterated his support for transgender Americans and the broader LGBTQ community Thursday, calling detractors 'hysterical' and 'prejudiced.'

So weird to watch the American left continuing to double down on this, even while the balance is being quietly redressed in all the Northern European countries (Iceland today, for example) that American liberals always claim to admire.

Canada too, of course, but Canada, let’s face it, is a lost cause.

I’m interested to see which way Australia goes.

I'm from Canada and I sadly have to agree.

With every passing day I increasingly wonder : who is running Biden?

Man can't stand up, can't walk, is infirm. Not through disability but through age.

Yet he reads this stuff. This stuff that's given to him. Who's running him?

Ellie450 · 09/06/2023 02:03

It would be interesting if the US had two single-term presidents in a row.

crunchermuncher · 09/06/2023 04:29

He's such a disappointment. Who on earth can normal Americans support politically when both their parties have disappeared so far down rabbit holes?

miri1985 · 09/06/2023 04:37

I have a feeling his reaction to being asked "what is woman?" on the campaign trail/debates will be hysterical

Highandlows · 09/06/2023 05:15

Biden is disgusting. I really dread four more years of that creepy man.

If often think the same 😬

It's like you can't question Biden's suitability without being branded a MAGA Republican.

I actually found this release really sinister.

It’s terrifying really

everyone knows there’s no such thing as a man that’s really a woman, and that sterilising children is bad

how can anyone sensible vote for people who don’t accept those things?

it’s like the democrats actively want another Trump presidency

lifeturnsonadime · 09/06/2023 08:56

Well he's right that it is appalling that in the US gay people don't have employment rights.

But that is quite different from removing women's rights in favour of males and mutilating children.

The conflation of those 2 issues in the US is not a problem we have in Western Europe and sadly I think that it is what a long of the left in the US can hide behind when waving the rainbow flag.

crunchermuncher · 09/06/2023 08:58

I can feel another email to the WH coming on...

When US universities define women as 'non men'
https://twitter.com/WCI_YRDSB/status/1665719247572434946?s=20
and the government dismisses our legitimate concerns as hysterical , the misogyny is there for all to see. Men aren't being redefined as non women, and that tells you everything you need to know.

Well Hunter Biden sure knows who a woman is, if his laptop's anything to go by. Maybe Joe should check in with him?

Well he's right that it is appalling that in the US gay people don't have employment rights

They're not the only ones, though; and they do have the right not to be discriminated against

There's a US site called Ask A Manager that has a lot of detail on employment rights or lack of them in the US

ArabeIIaScott · 09/06/2023 09:09

Be interested to read that Equality Act. Does anyone know where one can find it?

dimorphism · 09/06/2023 09:12

He is a huge disappointment, as is Obama and all the other supposed 'leaders' cheering on this stuff.

They need to read what some of the surgeons involved in 'gender affirmative' surgeries and drugs are saying. Even Bowers is admitting that puberty blockers at Tanner stage 2 destroys the chance of normal sexual function. They're talking about modifying the protocols - but what about just bloody deciding to stop it all or at the very least do proper research and follow up. The surgeons involved can't see the wood for the trees - given the risks and problems being exposed the whole idea of doing this to children at all should be vigorously questioned - as it would be for any other medical procedure with dubious benefit and known risks - and the Democrats are more interested in their political agenda than children's health and wellbeing.

It varies a lot by State. Some States have anti-discrimination employment laws not dissimilar to the UK's. Others allow you to fire at will, other than where it would contravene Federal law.

So what are protected classes in US law then?

Presumably Biden is suggesting that being Gay is not one of them so that they can be fired at will without remedy?

'He said what is happening in some states is an 'unjustified and ugly' appeal to fear and called on lawmakers to pass legislation, which has been stalled in Congress, that would protect the civil rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals.
'Congress must pass, must pass the Equality Act and send it to my desk,' Biden said of a legislative measure he had named a top priority during his 2020 campaign.'

'Equality Act

This bill prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in areas including public accommodations and facilities, education, federal funding, employment, housing, credit, and the jury system. Specifically, the bill defines and includes sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity among the prohibited categories of discrimination or segregation.

The bill expands the definition of public accommodations to include places or establishments that provide (1) exhibitions, recreation, exercise, amusement, gatherings, or displays; (2) goods, services, or programs; and (3) transportation services.

The bill allows the Department of Justice to intervene in equal protection actions in federal court on account of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The bill prohibits an individual from being denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity.'

I think I can see a problem, here. (my bold)

Not for the first time, I reflect on how glad I am that I don’t live in the US. They really are fucked. Choose between a dotard and a sociopath, people!
