Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Being a TERF on other pregnancy/parenting sites is an experience.

Simple, neutral feminist statements that aren't male centered get you banned or your posts deleted. It's kind of amazing, really.
How did we end up with a world like this?

Babycenter?

notsurewherenotsurewhy · 06/06/2023 21:25

Oof. It's a long time since I used any of the others (never appealed to me once I was past the pregnancy stage), but I still lurk in a few parenting-related fb groups and I bet it's all very similar. Lots of competitive kindness and coolness, plus the 'progressive' points for having trans-identifying kids.

Babycenter?

I already got banned from there for saying gender was a social construct so lol

I am using WTE right now - which I only ever use when I'm pregnant for the pregnancy tracker and oh my gosh it's a mess. I got called a terf and I got accused of toxic positivity ? Like what lol

Worrying if parenting sites are like this!

InvisibleDragon · 06/06/2023 23:23

Tell me about it ... There is a local in person baby group which is currently advertising an event for "post-partum parents" which I think is a euphemism for new mums, but might include partners too, I genuinely don't know.

Pandafeeties · 06/06/2023 23:36

But are you going on these sites to "spread the word" as a terf?

I consider myself GC but the way some people just insert "but the tranz" into every discussion is pretty juvenile. It always, and I mean ALWAYS ends up the same way.

Then they carry on that they've been maligned. Rinse, repeat.

CanadianFi · 06/06/2023 23:42

@PandafeetiesNo, I normally just go on for pregnancy stuff. I was browsing and saw a thread of someone saying you don't support a kid who is LGBTQ+ you shouldn't have children and responded to someone accusing the OP of saying poor and uneducated people shouldn't have kids because they don't have the financial resources by saying "You don't need money to support an LGB child" lol

Are you joining American Facebook groups or something?

Longdarkteatimeofthesoul · 07/06/2023 00:03

Australian ones are just the same - completely captured and "no debate" and "be kind" nonsense!

CanadianFi · 07/06/2023 00:13

@Circumferences I'm on Whattoexpect right now, which is American owned.

@Longdarkteatimeofthesoul I'm finding the "no debate" mentality in a board labelled as a debate board to be funny. Like, what exactly do they debate here?

Yepppp. Completely tiresome.

That's kind of strange, because I thought the progressives agreed with that one.

CanadianFi · 07/06/2023 01:59

@PorcelinaV I'm guessing it's too controversial regardless?

They could have suspected GC and so "TERF" from someone saying that.

Surely the argument is that sex is a social construct, while gender is real, hence it being so important that it outweighs sex under all circumstances?

I just checked the Stonewall definition of gender:

"Often expressed in terms of masculinity and femininity, gender is largely culturally determined and is assumed from the sex assigned at birth."

I guess it's one way to drive you off the internet with pre schoolers. Leave the luxury fashionable believers to it, impressing people they don't know in person, who don't care about them.

I have been watching a woke influencer on Instagram and her 18 month old, has had her phone in his face his whole life. She was laughing that he will only allow her read a page of his book at a time, he has a brief watch of his video (he had the remote in his hand) gets quickly bored, back to the book, bored, back to the video. She though it was funny, I though what have you done to his brain development with that phone in his face watching on your lap as you click in and out of websites his whole life, he seems to have a form of attention deficit.
