Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

Apologies, I don't have time to read the whole thread today.

Oxfam, if you are reading this, please be aware that I am instructing my bank to cancel my regular donation. I am also instructing my solicitor to alter my will. You will no longer receive the rather large (5 figure) sum I had asked to be left to you.

Several decades I worked for you, you were a good organisation, focused on the actual needs of people. You have lost your way, it is very disappointing.

Please don't reply on Oxfam reading this thread. Write to them. Their email address isn't hard to find online.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 07/06/2023 16:09

Even if someone from Oxfam is reading, they are likely to be junior and won't be passing messages up the chain. Emails are more likely (not very likely, but more likely than a random post) to be forwarded to management or compiled into a report for proper consideration.

MrsJamin · 07/06/2023 16:24

Yes, emails or letters to Oxfam are much more likely to be read than comments online as it's likely only more woke juniors are monitoring the comments there.

IwantToRetire · 07/06/2023 16:26

re. my comment about Julie Bindel article. It was in response to comments that made it sound like she had said something new and original. She hadn't.

All I was saying is to (over) compliment her seems a bit strange when many of this thread have already said it.

This is totally different to which papers publish articles like this. So no surprise the Mail and Times have done so.

And in response to someone up thread, I dont listen to the BBC all day, but from memory I dont think that on the 1pm & 6pm news slots on Radio 4 anything was said. I also watched newsnight for a report they were going to do, and dont think it was mentioned there either.

But they have just published this - an hour ago! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-65831823

JK Rowling attends "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald" World Premiere at UGC Cine Cite Bercy on November 8, 2018 in Paris, France

JK Rowling: Oxfam sorry for video after 'cartoon JK Rowling' accusation

It denies a character with red eyes and a "Terf" badge is based on Rowling but re-edits the animation.

re. the revelations (no suprise) about the Stonewall personnel entryism into other companies.

Just like to revive the idea, never put into practice, that somebody (ie with the know how) starts constructing one of those family tree like charts which clearly shows links through personnel to organisations like Stonewall.

Because apart from anything else it would illustrate how those with a vested interest are abusing their paid positions to prommote their personal politics.

Can you imagine any one with GC politics being allowed by an employer to do that?!

BaronMunchausen · 07/06/2023 12:04

It's an irony that while feeling distressed, unsafe etc can be part of male performative femininity, actual women don't push their personal distress.

Probably because it won't be taken seriously.

If anyone but the sacred caste express distress, actual injuries as opposed to hurty feelz, rape, domestic violence, exclusion, loss of medical care, stuff like that?

they get told they're weaponising their trauma and shouldn't say such things, because it upsets the sacred caste.

I'm reaching the point where I'm all out of fucks.

nilsmousehammer · 07/06/2023 16:46

And 'weaponising your trauma' so often means, when run through the universal bullshit translator 'you're stealing my audience!'

StormShadow · 07/06/2023 16:48

Always a great sign when your images are redolent of Fritz Hippler's Eternal Jew.

Backpedaling from Oxfam.

The message includes the flag with the trans colours. That's bad, right?

Why do you think that's bad? Are you a transphobe?

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 07/06/2023 19:50

I'm not daft. Of course I have written to Oxfam. A first class letter to HQ and another letter hand delivered to the local shop.

KalimbaMoon · 07/06/2023 22:27

Interesting choice of image to accompany the article.

" The UK charities watchdog is assessing whether it will take action against Oxfam after receiving complaints about a cartoon published by the charity that ignited a row about transgender issues."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jun/07/oxfam-pride-month-cartoon-charities-watchdog

From the same article:

"The Charity Commission said it was assessing the complaints in the context of its regulatory and risk framework, which requires it to take action if it considers a charity has undermined public trust and confidence in the charity sector."

A lot of ifs, however, if that ends up being an investigation and if it goes against Oxfam, there are other charities that'll need to take note.

Cashycashy · 07/06/2023 22:33

Bloody hell WTAF are Oxfam thinking? I’ll avoid them like the plague in future.

Such a biased and dangerous approach.

Thinking about it - id rather support local charities anyway.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 07/06/2023 22:39

Even if it doesn't get that far, just the fact that they are having to think about whether Oxfam has 'undermined public trust and confidence in the charity sector' is pretty big. No charity of that size[1] should be doing anything that even makes that a question.

[1] No charity of any size should, but particularly one big enough to have a full time comms and.policy departments, and in-house lawyers.

Helleofabore · 07/06/2023 22:40

Either way, the fact that Oxfam might get away with this doesn’t mean others would. And the fact that the charity commission is taking it seriously, should be enough to stop other organisations from doing a similar fucked up campaign.

That is a fake though.

GailBlancheViola · 07/06/2023 22:49

Oxfam should never have survived the sexual assault and rape that their workers indulged in in Haiti and Chad, they tefloned away from that, none of those workers faced criminal charges and the man in charge was allowed to resign.

Somehow those doing the assaulting and raping were very aware of the sex of those they wished to rape and assault, those poor girls and women could not identify out of it. How ironic the Guardian picture had Empowering Women in their headline, aid workers raping them is empowering is it Oxfam?

DerekFaker · 07/06/2023 22:56

Helleofabore · 07/06/2023 22:45

That is a fake though.

Oh right, so it is! Silly me.

JanesLittleGirl · 07/06/2023 23:06

Were the guys who indulged in rape and forced prostitution in Haiti and DRC fucking women and girls or people who identified as women and girls?

GailBlancheViola · 07/06/2023 23:11

The 6 million dollar question @JanesLittleGirl .

Remarkable how they know which sex to use and abuse and also which sex they need to volunteer in all their shops and do all the tedious, boring stuff - empowering women yeah right.

ChristinaXYZ · 07/06/2023 23:18

I see #OxfamHatesWomen is gaining some traction on twitter.

I hope they are squirming.

I hope they have had volunteers resign.

I hope that have had lots of direct debits stopped.

I hope the postie covering their HQ has had to take up weight lift because of the complaints.

I hope this keeeps going because it has been too much for too long from Oxfam. It is not the odd root and branch, the whole plant is riddled with misogyny.

And I hope lots of other good charities actually doing what they're supposed to do, instead of virtue signalling and bullying people, get lots more money instead.
