Comments say it’s not popular!

'We're committed to supporting the communities we serve'
As long as they think and act like we demand, as we'll cancel/block you if you don't!

Yes! Be kind!….or else!

They’re waaaaay behind the curve. Customers don’t want this bullshit, as the comments show.

FrancescaContini · 05/06/2023 08:44

“We don’t tolerate abuse” 😂 nobody was being abusive!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 05/06/2023 08:53

Damn and blast. All the banks in my town have closed and I was going to transfer to NW. Not after that blatant insult.

Is there ANY company that just does what it was set up for?

Premiumbondbaby · 05/06/2023 09:36

To be fair, this is for pride week not International women’s day. The outfit is not hyper sexualised like some drag queens and it is elements of the characters personality not the outfit that is being used in work.

There needs to be a balance and for me this is not an issue. Drag queen story time is a completely different issue.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/06/2023 09:54

Drag is often misogynistic and on top of that, because it's become inexplicably popular most performers are really awful, the DQ on the advert being a prime example of that. The big thing here though is that a company somehow feels emboldened to scold its customers. Who on earth do they think they are? They are there to respect and reflect the customer base. Nationwide deserves to go out of business if that is its toxic culture.

BreezySunnyDay · 05/06/2023 10:03

Liking the comments. Some defensive tweeting going on there from Nationwide...don't think this how they expected it to go 😬

Ah remember @FrancescaContini to some 'abuse' is saying 'actually my thoughts differ' while saying 'I'm going to cut off your head' 'hope you die in a grease fire you fucking scum' is hearts and fluffy rainbowz from beautiful individuals... 🙄

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 05/06/2023 10:26

Nationwide = Bollocks.
I for one am proud to be a 100% woman, I find this very offensive and don't need it rammed down my throat.

PurpleBugz · 05/06/2023 10:31

I just popped along to add my two pennies to the comments but comments are restricted 🤷‍♀️

MagicSpring · 05/06/2023 10:44

Meh, he's just a man in drag. I dislike drag as an adult and loathed panto dames as a child, so it's not to my taste. But as far as I can see he doesn't think he's a woman, so presumably he's 'part of the LGBTQ community' because he's gay rather than trans?

JellySaurus · 05/06/2023 10:48

Is it part of 'bring your whole self to work'?

Certain parts of your whole self are inappropriate in certain settings.

Do your act online, or at adult clubs, at work use the communication skills you've developed through your act. When you and your colleagues talk about hobbies, be as honest and open as you feel comfortable. But that's as far as it should go.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/06/2023 10:48

But I find the grotesque parody of women and womanhood offensive. I don't want my mortgage holder to celebrate that any more than I'd want them to celebrate the mockery of anyone else.

MrsJamin · 05/06/2023 10:49

It's a horrible post but I'm not going to move away from Nationwide because I just can't be bothered with the faff of it all. Why can't they just be a building society? Why do they employ someone who answers the phone dressed up as something they are not and doesn't want to be "methodical"... methodical... in banking????? Dickheads. At least they didn't say he's a woman...

I have to agree with @Premiumbondbaby

kljpl · 05/06/2023 10:52

Those comments are so reassuring.

SiobhanSharpe · 05/06/2023 10:56

They are getting their arse handed to them in the comments, I'm pleased to say. (Even though I can't reply. And I'm a Nationwide member, too.)

FourTeaFallOut · 05/06/2023 10:57

But why does parading around aping the exaggerated attributes of someone else get a pass when women are the butt of the performance?

What if he brought his whole self to work and that whole self parodied the disabled? I have a number of disabilities and I'd feel on much firmer ground telling someone to get to fuck if they spun it into an entertaining and celebratory pantomime identity.

MrsJamin · 05/06/2023 10:59

Why is a Nationwide employee using a fake name whilst at work? Is this expected and supported behaviour? I have the right to speak to someone at Nationwide using their real name and for them to be as methodical as anyone else when looking after my money safely.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 05/06/2023 11:03

But why does parading around aping the exaggerated attributes of someone else get a pass when women are the butt of the performance?

Because what's the comeback? parody the disabled or black people and quite rightly expect to get dragged in front of HR at best. Parody and denigrate women (a large number of whom will be your customers)? nah, it's a bit of laugh, innit? where's your sense of humour?

I can't believe how fast women's status is regressing.

I agree. I am also glad I am not on twitter and see this stuff.

I have been a member for over 20yrs and never left because I have always had a really good service from them so unless that changes I will be continuing to stay.

This.

The person posting that tweet clearly had no idea of the reaction they were going to get. That's the first problem. Know your customer base.

The second problem is to criticise their customer base for not supporting it.

The arrogance of imagining that your millions of customers are going to agree with your social politics is disturbing.

What is unbelievable is that you tell them off for not doing it!

Not only is it yet another foot shooting exercise, it's very concerning that they feel entitled to do it.

Speak for yourself. This forum is an echo chamber.
My opinion is that a company as large as nationwide supporting Pride is a great decision.

Inclusion doesn't mean excluded groups that you don't consider match your view.
