If you subscribe to The Week Junior interested in thoughts on how it covers gender identity, if at all. I think a while back they had an article explaining why some people were cross with JKR? Would be good to know more before we commit to a subscription. Thanks

I am looking into a subscription, and am interested to know the answer to this question.

Me too!

I think this is the American version but I might be reluctant to purchase, given this and the way they spoke about JKR.

Do you know which edition the JKR coverage was in? We have a subscription for DD and I’ll be honest I don’t read it cover to cover with her (DH usually does but he didn’t mention anything). If you know which one it was I can look for it and put up screenshots.

we had a subscription for many years. I didn't read it from cover to cover, but I don't remember the issue ever coming up. there were issues on Pride occasionally but mostly with a LGB focus - I don't recall any drag queens or TRA content.

Thanks I think it was over 2 years ago, a vague memory!

We have a regular copy. It had a fair bit about LGBT (mostly LGB) rights for Pride, but it covers all the special days/months etc like that - eg Black British Women for Black History Month recently and is generally pretty good. I don’t read it cover to cover but DC are outspokenly GC and have never said they’ve disagreed with anything they’ve read in it. I have been very happy with it on the whole.

I’ve never seen that Pronouns bit above, and in fact that formatting doesn’t even look like the usual Week Junior to me. Perhaps it is another edition as suggested.

"Pronouns are the third-person references that people use for themselves". Do they not hear themselves? How did they ever manage to persuade people that each of us has the right to control how other people talk about us?

Patchworksack · 09/10/2023 22:29

We’ve had a subscription for years and I don’t remember anything about trans issues at all. As above some coverage of Pride parades etc but only in the same way as other cultural celebrations. I never felt they had any agenda. It’s aimed at fairly young children 8+ and I always feel they are careful with how they cover things - when there has been a particularly difficult issue they have emailed parents the content in advance (can’t actually remember what the news story was but remember being impressed how they handled it)

Indeed. I'd be worried if someone was using 3rd person prononuns about themselves:

'Would you like a chocolate biscuit?'

'Yes, he'd love one'

It sounds as if it's generally OK. That's alright then. Thanks for answering Flowers
