Well, I've been working my way through cycling forums, trying to get the gender critical point of view across. My record so far: banned/censored/banned/hobbled so effectively as to be silenced, under threat of further banishment; so basically self-banned.

https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16999451/
https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16997635/ (I'll cop to being a serial offender when it comes to mentioning Mumsnet.)

I want to make it emphatically clear to whom it may concern that I am not encouraging a 'pile on' over there. Their house, their rules. I'm posting out of frustration: this is the only place online I can vent to people who will understand.

There is someone on that thread who has put the case for women spectacularly well – I'll leave you to find her posts, as I don't wish to cause her any grief. But the environment is so chilly ("if you don't think transwomen are women, and that transmen are men... then this forum is a place of very thin ice for you") that I wonder how she, or anyone else who isn't a realityphobe, will get on.

Kind of wishing I'd fallen into a milieu other than cycling…

We didn't devote much time to our studies but I can't imagine our lovely biology teacher (one the few we behaved for) would have been able to get away with any 'wrong body/assigned at birth' guff.

We were naughty but we knew the moon wasn't made of cheese.

Oh didn't you know, just like trans revisionism tells us Lizzy 1 was likely a man, or enby, ditto Joan Of Arc etc, likely there were whole generations of biology teachers who knew sex wasn't binary and that GI was a life defining thing, they were all too afraid to speak.

Chances are Mendel and Darwin were good on this too.

In the basis of that female SNP MSP who claimed she hadn't checked her genitals recently so really couldn't say what her sex was (maybe that's why she failed her Med School entrance interview), we need to move the kids out and get these clowns in.

The kids are alright...it's the adults who aren't.

Perhaps we should all be checking our genitals on a regular basis?

I'm not a gynaecologist etc

Just another thing that would be funny in any other context (I grew up with Monty Python and Viz), but is drained of all humour and is deadly serious now.

James OBrien on LBC made his faux humble "I've come to a personal reckoning on trans issues" address to the nation a couple of months back, and his sole contribution to the debate was saying are GCs gonna police genital inspections (and DNA testing) outside toilets, changing rooms, single sex spaces, sports arenas.

Maybe your comment is addressed to him?

I can't listen to that man,he makes my blood boil and my skin crawl.

His "I am a trans oracle now" hour was a low point even for him.

Anytime he preaches he's the voice of moderation, and listens, and happy to correct himself publically, I'm just reminded of one name.

Carl Beech.

Google it.

I’m surprised that Singletrack discussion didn’t get zapped. I got a right finger wagging, why are you so mean, TWAT message off the editor not that long ago because I’d posted on my social media about this subject.

I think even 6 months ago it might have been, but it does seem the tide has turned slightly there. It's quite a change from a year ago

Singletrack World Response to Nadine Dorries' Comments on Trans Athletes

Singletrack World takes the position that sport is for everyone and cannot support the recent statements by the UK Culture Secretary, Nadine Dorries.

That’s possibly the worst art I’ve ever seen. Maybe it was ironically bad?

As for their response piece, it just makes me glad I’ve never given them a dime, and not many more clicks.

@BCCoach AFAIK that never went away; I was referring to a post on their forum that I made earlier in the day - an attempt at a discussion they either thought would overload their server, or which simply didn't meet their high standards. I suppose 'transgender female cyclists' in that link you just posted should've given me a clue about said standards.

Me again, still keeping an eye on cycling forums. The latest:

"Mumsnet: you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

Meanwhile on the Godwin front…

@CyclingSam I can't make head nor tail of those forums with all the weird inline quoting.

CyclingSam · 18/09/2023 10:42

Russian-doll-nested-quotes aside, I think it's natural and intuitive; but as they're fond of saying on cycling forums, YMMV.

I'd wear that slogan with the greatest pride.

I thought it sounded familiar.

Me too @RealityFan that’s a compliment that is 😆

also (as we said in school) they’re welcome to come & have a go if they think they’re hard enough to prove to us we’re wrong

RealityFan · 18/09/2023 13:29

Problem with these trans rights mischief makers is that it's the only fight they've been involved in. They're conflating to gay and black rights, but that's just incorrect. So, they're fight is just their fight, parasitically attached onto genuine fights for justice historically.

Whereas women have fought these battles so often, they're hardened to it, these jokers are so out of their depth. The only thing that gives them sustenance is the fact that they think they're part of a grand tradition.

And of course in the new tradition of social media atomisation and purity spiralling, these individuals appear to have wider support and deep integrity and principles than is the actual case.

I'm afraid a bunch of misogynists with 7% body fat wrapped in lycra screaming abuse at women at meets and pontificating that TWAW and we're all scum and villainy aint no Rosa Parks or Stonewall Riots 1968 vintage.

More Rick from The Young Ones barracking his polytechnic.

CyclingSam · 18/09/2023 16:33

Oi – some of us cyclists have resisted the sausage-casing lure of lycra. At the risk of having this taken the wrong way, I (a male) actually shopped in the women's aisle for some of my attire.

That it's largely a Guardian crowd helps explain why they're out of their depth. Never thought I'd be writing that, but here we are.

Suits you, sir
