JK Rowling sticking up for KJK

As @ PatrickStrud has blocked me on here (we've never, to my knowledge, interacted on Twitter or anywhere else) I can't challenge him directly about the claim he published in iNews (see below) that a Let Women Speak event in Australia 'staged a mass Nazi salute'. This is a lie so brazen, so easily disprovable and so libellous, I'm amazed it was allowed it into print by a supposedly reputable news source.

For years now, women and gay people concerned about the erosion of their rights, the dismantling of safeguarding and the escalating threats and violence of trans activists have been called 'fascists' and 'Nazis' by people like Strudwick for holding what, until five minutes ago, were solidly left-wing/feminist political positions.

Nobody but useful idiots can be genuinely surprised that REAL fascists have spotted a glorious opportunity in trans activism. The homophobic, anti-feminist far-right has long held that the left is degenerate, foolish, immoral and authoritarian, and now they can point to the incoherent arguments of the gender ideologues, the bullying tactics of the no-platformers and the swarms of masked men threatening violence against women for wanting to retain single-sex spaces, and crow 'we told you so'.

Actual Nazis have turned up on the fringes of Let Women Speak events for exactly the same reason aggressive, narcissistic trans activists are there. These groups closely resemble each other. Both are rife with misogynistic opportunists who're using a clash of rights to push their own agendas, both are there in the hope of violence, and neither gives a damn about the women who're there to speak out in their own voices, about their own lives, on their own behalf. It's high time those peddling lies like Strudwick's are held accountable and I sincerely hope @ ThePosieParker takes action.

Not to derail this thread but it might be good way to support KJK by telling YouTube that in banning her they are stopping women from talking about their rights.

YouTube doesn't have an email contact or complaints form but I did find this (sorry to those who saw it on the LWS thread) but I really think the least we can do is show support this way - and get LWS back on YouTube. Next month she will be outside the UN in Geneva!

Suggested method of complaing to YouTube:

Have found this online form re YouTube https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802057

Where it says Was This Helpful say No and a form appears.

This is what I wrote (usual typos)

What is the option to say that a ban you have imposed on someone is in fact a restriction of women's rights.

Let Women Speak / Posie Parker is one of the few outlets women have to speak about the loss of their rights.

Even the UN has recognised that women are being silenced. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2023/05/allow-women-and-girls-speak-sex-gender-and-gender-identity-without^^^^

Please read and re-instate Posie Parker / Let Women Speak.

Or do you want everyone to move from YouTube to twitter?

Not very good I know, but if anyone else thinks its worth doing, please do.

Its ridiculous that one trans person can silence all the voices that LWS give a platform to.

Just to echo what others have said about JKR.

She is so impressive, not only has she huge talent, and has been sucessful, but she hasn't let that stop her from remaining involved in the more day to day lives of women.

And always seems to be the first to step up and offer support to other women and women's rights, even in the face of the daily abuse and treachery.

And just pulls apart the nonsense of those opposing women's rights.

So thanks to JKR - again!

Coyoacan · 30/05/2023 03:30

I wish I had a tenth of RKR's talent and heart

Coyoacan · 30/05/2023 03:31

Duh JKR.

Musomama1 · 30/05/2023 07:42

Wish I had a tenth of JKRs backbone.

ResisterRex · 30/05/2023 07:49

I do think KJK should give serious thought to taking legal action. It seems like her approach is just to let it all roll off her back, which is commendable. But maybe there comes a point where enough is enough.

It sounds like it would be a fairly easy case. If the paper has deleted the sentence, it means they know it's libellous. Therefore one letter from a libel lawyer should be enough for them to agree to settle out of court. How could they defend it if they had already tacitly acknowledged it was libellous?

Lottapianos · 30/05/2023 08:04

'I really hope KJK takes JKR up on her offer.'

Me too. JKR literally putting her money where her mouth is. What a brilliant woman

maranella · 30/05/2023 08:14

I just read that iNews article all the way through (and it was painful!), but I couldn't see the reference to the Nazi salute taken at a Let Women Speak event. Looks like maybe it's been deleted?

maranella · 30/05/2023 08:17

In fact, the whole paragraph that JKR quotes has been removed. If you look at the top of the article, where it says the date and time it was published, it says 'Updated 10.53pm' last night.

The paragraph is still there. He's just removed the libellous sentence.

It was changed within 2 hours of it going online.

The Independent used to be a decent paper and now it's a complete rag.

I really hope Strudwick has had a sleepless night. It's not enough to delete. He needs to apologise and admit he's a massive liar.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/05/2023 08:38

I really hope Posie sues because the fact is she needs more publicity for the fact that these claims are false. People believe them.

Mollyollydolly · 30/05/2023 08:52

I really want her to take action, enough is enough and he's not just some daft deluded kid, he's supposed to be a serious journalist.

And JK Rowling what to say? No-one I admire more. It's especially heartening to see her bringing women together. United we stand.

Signalbox · 30/05/2023 09:05

Is that all? I wonder how many shares and likes it had accumulated before that sentence was removed.

I imagine this could be easily dealt with outside of a court room. An apology in the “i” and a donation to some charity or other.

Or perhaps Strudwick will refuse to apologise and end up in court. I’m just reminiscing about Katie Hopkins losing circa £350,000 for reporting that Jack Monroe vandalised a war memorial. Expensive mistake.

Yes she has to or the fact she didn't will be seen as proof she knows it's true and she won't win.

Oh and she had been given the option to retract and donate a small amount to charity and refused.

Yep. Libel is still libel, and just making up wild, defamatory and inflammatory shit and then deleting it once everyone has read it is not okay.

Quick note to clarify that it's in the i, not the Independent.

The two started off in the same stable, but they've been separately owned now for several years.

Sorry, I'm wrong. It was changed within 2 hours of JKR's tweet. Strudwick tweeted a link to his article 9 hours before her tweet. As you can see in the screenshot, he was preening himself for accurate factual reporting. It was retweeted loads with a lot of women calling him out before it was updated.

His original post has 370k views. Hers has 2.4m 🤣🤣

Thank you @Parisite

KalimbaMoon · 30/05/2023 09:30

Well done JKR for standing up to this. It is so dangerous and irresponsible of trusted news sources - or indeed any news source - to publish these harmful lies as fact. And so sneaky and weaselly to delete the offending sentence without an explanation. The damage has already been done.

There are people out there who truly believe KJK is a neo-Nazi. They’ve been fed lies by the media and their friends who’ve swallowed those lies.

Many people don’t bother to do their own research. I’ve seen it on Facebook - a NZ friend slagging off KJK in no uncertain terms. Another friend piped up admitting she hadn’t heard of her and was glad she hadn’t. She was happy to trust the NZ friend’s damning verdict. These malicious lies in the media and beyond don’t just damage the gender-critical argument; they put people in very real danger.

ArabeIIaScott · 30/05/2023 09:31

Exactly, Kalimba. He's creating targets of any women that attend events organised by KJK.

KalimbaMoon · 30/05/2023 09:33

And that’s why KJK should sue - if not for herself, she can do it to protect others.
