Bethany talks about her transition and detransition.

"“It is alarming but people need to understand this is worse than Scientology, it is like a cult,” she said. “It’s in schools, in universities, on social media. How have we allowed this to happen? It has to stop.”"

The letter mentioned in the article isn't on Tol yet.

I was too young to transition — now I want to help other teenagers

After a double mastectomy and seven years of injecting herself with testosterone, Bethany realised a year ago that she no longer wanted to live as a man. Peti

Medical malpractice. That’s all the words I can summon right now. It breaks my heart every time I read or hear one of these stories.

Clymene · 27/05/2023 21:36

That's such a sad article. Poor, poor woman.

LulooLemon · 27/05/2023 21:43

It's an awful read. Makes me sad and angry.

RealityFan · 27/05/2023 22:11

I'm a physical therapist who has a hard enough time dealing with predominantly female patients who get routinely ignored and belittled by doctors and the medical system (menopause etc).

But this is even worse, the diametric opposite where the patient is absolutely fast tracked to lifelong medicalisation the moment the words "I think I might be trans..." are uttered.

Tallisker · 27/05/2023 22:53

The stories are all exactly the same. Our poor, poor girls 😢

RealityFan · 28/05/2023 00:05

It's so weird watching this medical scandal in real time. Sure, I've read about the lobotomy and electro-shock scandals, and the opioid crisis, but to be observing this one up close, like a witness to a several years-long car accident, feels so disconcerting.

And to see wide swathes of polite society either wholeheartedly support it, or at the very most, look the other way, adds to the sheer cognitive disconnect.

How is it that the liberal elites can jump all over Trump, Boris, populism, Brexit and Brexiters as sins, wrongthink, magical thinking, and be fearless in their antagonism, yet be silent and complicit here?

Hoardasurass · 28/05/2023 02:47

That's a powerful article. I hope that bethany gets the emotional and medical help to deal with the long term consequences of what she's been through

WarriorN · 28/05/2023 06:32

It's an absolute medical safeguarding disaster.

And social disaster.

Schools, the dfe and the government are complicit.

PriOn1 · 28/05/2023 07:08

I agree on the medical malpractice, but this also shows the increased risk with having private doctors with no moral compass. How can any doctor refer a self-harming patient for physical medical treatment without any exploration of psychiatric problems?

The idea that “being trans” is not a mental illness in itself, but that it somehow causes such enormous distress that many patients develop problematic behaviour/signs of distress, but those can be dismissed because “obviously transitioning will cure all that” is literally unbelievable. How any doctor can bring themselves to act that way is beyond my understanding.

And with groups of likeminded patients informing one another of which doctors will act this way, it’s just the perfect storm. Horrifying. And watching it continue to unfold is not going to bring any relief, though the sooner it is stopped, the better, and hearing about it is going to be the only way it will be stopped.

This should never have happened.

Forwarder · 28/05/2023 09:11

Yes @PriOn1 it is ironic that the mainstream left both UK& US are championing the worst excesses of profit driven 'healthcare'.

I totally agree. With the incidents you’ve cited from the past in mind, I do wonder whether arriving at this situation was inevitable even without the event of social media.

RealityFan · 28/05/2023 14:58

What's different here is that it's bottom up as well as top down.

Top down scandals have always been with us...I don't recall anyone back in the day demanding to have their brains selectively sliced or shocked. These medical "solutions" were one way, imposed top down by doctors.

Ok, maybe people did demand sleeping tabs and tranqs etc in industrial quantities, but it was still the medical industry that promulgated the trade.

However trans looks like the first phenomenon where patient and doctor are in "perfect harmony". As much top down (diagnosis plus affirmation therapy, puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, surgery etc recommended) as much as bottom up (kids demanding, parents and medics acquiescing)

The patient comes in with a self diagnosis, made online, via teen peer group, with the help of bad actors (Jeffrey Marsh, we see you), and full acquiescence/red carpet rolled out by GIDS, Mermaids, Gender GP etc.

And a whole societal structure mediated to mop your brow, tell you you're special, and that you'll be the first generation not to be let down by heartless adults.

Never discount how many Gen X and Millennial parents were ignored and belittled by their Boomer and Greatest Generation parents, they were never ever gonna let their kids down, even it meant instant affirmation of the new trans ID thing.

Social media just adds to the wildfire nature of the phenomenon, maybe ramped up the ROGD side of things.

How prevalent was anorexia, bulimia, cutting, self harm, glue sniffing, Es, back in the day when the internet didn't exist?

I agree, there's so much that stinks about the medical community in all this. I keep thinking what the fuck happened to 'first do no harm'? That's been thrown out the window in the name of 'progress' apparently..

I've given up being shocked when another 'respectable' medical institution blithely goes along with this crap. I just can't understand it. 'Sex is assigned at birth', 'Sex is a spectrum', blah blah - they just KNOW that this isn't true - so what the fuck are they playing at? Lying about biology and medical conditions is so unethical. And yet they seem to think they are doing something wonderful!

I do wonder if some of this is people in the medical community wanting to sort of atone for the sins of the past in how gay people were treated decades ago. Obviously this is not the way to do it, but David Bell mentioned something similar in relation to how transition for young people is being lauded and pushed from all sides.

I also wonder at how they are going to cover their arses when the tide turns on this - the skeptic in my thinks they aren't going to fully admit liability, but just dump the responsibility back onto vulnerable children and young people.

Shame on all of them.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/05/2023 15:21

Another dreadful story. How long will this continue with children / young people being harmed by these beliefs?

What will happen I think is that the current 16-24 or 16-30 group will become a "lost generation". Generation Alpha are already breaking the programming, and the law is progessively tightening the noose.

As it becomes both "uncool" for the youngest to associate with trans IDs and phenomenon, and the oldest to reassert the rule of law and empiricism, that will leave this 16 to 24-30 group, let down worse by society than any previous group, to pick up the pieces.

Only when the law crystallises (IOC, BC, EHRC commission) and the de-transitioners take out class actions, will the scales drop from so many sets of eyes.

And yes, attempts will be made to blame the kids, rather than the adults having to explain to them, and us, as to why they all left the room.

FrancescaContini · 28/05/2023 15:57

Jesus wept and wept..double mastectomy aged 20. This poor woman was “just a lesbian” all along. Beyond belief.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 28/05/2023 15:58

Does anybody know what's happening with the law suits? I know that a number of law firms were touting for custom and with the increasing data now available about unintended medical consequences, detranstioners stories and the safeguarding scandal at Mermaids etc the evidence to support cases is stacking up. Add to that the likely cases against schools socially transitioning children in secret, the legal lid must be going to blow shortly?
