The policies might not all be perfect - but they are moving in the right direction - I would like to take a moment to recognise all of those who have steps in the right direction..

The UK's Sports Councils
https://equalityinsport.org/resources/index.html
Categorisation within the sex binary is and remains the most useful and functional division relative to sporting performance.

Swim England
https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/transgender-competition-policy-update/
Only athletes who have declared a birth sex of female will compete in the ‘female’ category.

FINA: Fédération Internationale de Natation.
https://resources.fina.org/fina/document/2022/06/19/525de003-51f4-47d3-8d5a-716dac5f77c7/FINA-INCLUSION-POLICY-AND-APPENDICES-FINAL-.pdf
Male-to-female transgender athletes ... is female are eligible to compete in the women’s category... if they .....have not experienced any part of male puberty beyond Tanner Stage 2 or before age 12.

World Athletics:
https://worldathletics.org/news/press-releases/council-meeting-march-2023-russia-belarus-female-eligibility
In regard to transgender athletes, the Council has agreed to exclude male-to-female transgender athletes who have been through male puberty from female World Rankings competition from 31 March 2023.

British Cycling
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20230526-about-bc-static-Update--Transgender-and-Non-Binary-Participation-policies-0
The ‘Female’ category will remain in place for those whose sex was assigned female at birth and transgender men who are yet to begin hormone therapy.

British Triathlon
https://www.britishtriathlon.org/britain/documents/about/edi/transgender-policy-effective-from-01-jan-2023.pdf.
Only people who are the female sex at birth will be eligible to compete in the Female category.

Come on British Rowing, England Hockey, Scotland Hockey, Parkrun and IOC..

Persuasive article here.. let's not stop at elite athletes - all athletes are entitled to fair competition.

Whether it's possible to find it is another matter if the individual has changed their name.

Which is why the GRA needs reforming, so that the original birth certificate cannot be falsified, in the same way changing one's name officially (AKA by deed poll) doesn't alter the name on the original birth cert.

Oh, and National Insurance numbers need to be linked properly to all a person's names, and visible to all appropriate authorities.

I agree with you. The sports authorities need to "man' up on this and demand the certificate issued at birth.

SD1978 · 26/05/2023 22:55

The men will not be happy. They don't want to compete in an 'other' category where they might not dominate, and are complaining that women aren't 'being kind' I'm done with 'being kind' I juts want my daughter and all her friends to be able to be treated fairly. Fuck kind.

Suck on that Keir Starmer/Lisa Nandy/Ed Davey et al...

They will see this as literal violence surely?

Ah fab all of this happening and the GAA is the one taking the lead on allowing TW in Gaelic football 🙄🙄🙄

I know! It’s like ‘read the feckin room, lads!’ Cos as far as I know, LGFA higher ups seem to be mostly men 🙄

tigger2022 · 27/05/2023 05:43

The only negative about an open category instead of a 3rd category is it’s a bit like treating biological women as the other again (it’s a bit like saying “people over here, women over there”)

PermanentTemporary · 27/05/2023 07:02

I do know @tigger2022 and I think this is the frustrating thing - this arrangement is a huge concession. But there has to be some give and take.

Genuinely laughing at lots of the twitter takes saying 'bet the transphobe GCs haven't thought about transmen being in the female category!!' just showing as usual that they haven't a clue what being GC actually is. But I notice that the more rational activity voices aren't commenting on this. They know it's the only way forward.

NBL1 Womens (Australian basketball 1 tier down from the WNBL) has rejected a claim from Lexi Rogers - a trans woman to play in this league which seems to be a stepping stone for them to play WNBL. Basketball Australia convened a panel and it was announced in April 2023. Very good news as even your Under 16 A/B grade domestic kids league on average the boys are taller than the semi/ pro women!

Maybe soon we can move forward to the point where TWATW. Visibility and acceptance.

Agreed. This would be the best outcome for sport and access to all other single sex activities, services and spaces.

It doesn't address vulnerable children believing that they are trans when there may be other factors behind their distress (e.g. autistic girls experiencing puberty distress, adolescents who are gay believing this to be a sign that they must be in the wrong body), but that's a different part of the debate.

Leaving that part aside, it would be such a great outcome if TWATW could be celebrated by the LGBT community and allies.
