The new British Cycling policy goes public at 11am tomorrow. Anyone dare to speculate on the outcome? Will it be a win for women?

And once tutted, we can get back to watching the MN Games. New sports being added every day.

I quite this idea, the current prize money for the men's category could be split between the male and the trans category, while the prize money for women remains untouched.

YES. The best solution to the two categories for men to win problem yet, and FINALLY making men share their toys with the mediocre males like women are expected to. I love it

Hey, @Boiledbeetle is Happy still in the lead?

We could have a co-ordinated mass tut, like the NHS clap?

With an eye roll.

This is a genius idea.

I would take this kind of 'its ableist' comment a lot more seriously (although think it excessive to the point of silliness) if it didn't come from a view point that has zero interest in people with disabilities and their needs, has no integrity or coherence, and the only time it's ever mentioned is when a speaker can use it to scold others.

It's almost like it's attached to no values or beliefs, just an enjoyment of the experience of superior scolding of lesser mortals. Authoritarian follower personality; it's a thing.

Boiledbeetle · 27/05/2023 11:34

Annoyed has opened up a massive gap between first and second place.... (Bites tongue, so many jokes I could make about male advantage, but i won't)

The 'open' category is brilliant.
Of course, those born female even if they become transmen will probably still compete in the female category if they want any chance of winning.
Leaving those born male to compete in the open category alongside other males, which means that in effect there will be two categories, female and male

Could trans men compete in a female category if they are taking testosterone as part of their transition?

Could trans men compete in a female category if they are taking testosterone as part of their transition?

No. That is considering taking a performance enhancing drug. I believe they can compete in the open category.

Many sportspeople have to make hard choices about the drugs they take for their medical conditions and their sport. What other performance enhancing drug is exempt because a person may need it medically? The same goes for drugs that decrease performance. What other male people taking performance reducing drugs should be allowed to compete in female categories?

Why should trans people be treated differently? Surely that is not equality ?

Doubt it. Anabolic steroids still give an advantage over other women and they don't magically become safe even when they're renamed T and gender-affirming care.

Could trans men compete in a female category if they are taking testosterone as part of their transition?

No. The new guidance specifically states that transmen can compete in the female category before starting hormone therapy and in the open category afterwards. There are anti doping limits for testosterone for female riders which would presumably exclude transmen taking testosterone from those races.

Some sports allow a Therapeutic Use Exemption for trans-identifying females to take androgens and still compete. I don't know if this applies to cycling though.

Which allows them to dope and cheat.

All trans identifying females on testosterone would need a TUE to compete, as testosterone is a banned substance. This would only be to permit them to compete in the male category though? You can’t allow a competitor that is essentially doping to compete against women that would be banned for taking the same substance.

What, not even if they have special feelings and are Not Like The Other Girls?

MrsAvocet · 27/05/2023 12:36

C&P from the BC information. No exogenous testosterone in the Female category.
The ‘Female’ category will remain in place for those whose sex was assigned female at birth and transgender men who are yet to begin hormone therapy. At this stage, they will be eligible to compete in the ‘Open’ category only, and should ensure that they continue to adhere to the requirements of UK Anti-Doping. Those whose sex was assigned female at birth are also able to compete in the ‘Open’ category if they so wish

Indeed.

There must be loads of chaps who would be willing to reduce their testosterone for a short period if it means inclusion in women's sport. Not to mention their changing rooms.

What could possibly be the reason why they are refused?

Because they haven't said some magic words?

I want to be accepted in women's sport and I have reduced my testosterone.

But do you identify as a woman?

No.

Then you can't

Oh! Ok then, yes.

Do come in, this way to the locker rooms.

And yes I know there was some weightlifting chap that did practically that.

I'd like to see loads of them doing it, and publicising it.

They could call themselves Girl Friday.

General cat arsery.

I made the mistake of moving something too loudly. Which accidentally woke up the neighbour's cat that was snoozing on the back of one of my armchairs... Before I knew it he was hanging off my arm!

Different scheme applies - WADA is the World Anti Doping Agency. For a special feelings exemption certificate you have to apply to the World Transgender Agency for Feelings.

Because as soon as we see someone with special feelings making use of this exemption we immediately think WTAF.
