I work in international development and gender is a big part of our work. We have gender policies, KPIs, etc, etc.
Of course, when I say gender, it’s in the context of women. We write about women’s access to sanitation, credit, employment, media and information.
With all the talk of gender in the news, it annoys me somewhat when I see the word gender. I think because in most cases, we mean women. So in documents, where I can, I try to use the word women or sex, and avoid gender.
Does this come up in your work? How do you deal with or talk about gender in the pre-2018(ish) sense?
