how long did punk last for? 2-3 years? The shine is coming off this latest youth craze even as we speak. In 2 years time being non binary will be about as fashionable as lacing your dialogue with "daddio" or "far out, man".

I've just read that article. Health care should be evidence based. To proceed without is an experiment. People have to consent when part of a trial.

The lack of evidence is quite shocking. And perhaps more shocking is the misrepresentation of what information there is. Trans people deserve better.

That’s the very definition of ‘social contagion’. It’s a bit like the covid epidemic. Starts with isolated cases and before you know it half the population has it! Then pretty soon it starts to lose its effect on society and we’re all back to kissing / shaking hands / hugging each other.
Give it another year and it’ll be as passé as the Bay City Rollers.

I hope so. Very concerning how much lip service is being paid to this in schools with young secondary age children. My son is 12 and knows all this lingo that is frankly talking openly about people's sexuality. Fine at 14/15 not so much in children that have barely started puberty.

The problem is that while we wait for it pass young people are embarking on an irreversible path to lifelong medical medication and surgery destroying previously healthy body parts.

I think this is different in that many of the children at risk are very vulnerable. So it's not purely fashion; there are also various other issues tangled up in it.

I suspect it will be as easy to fix as the mental health crisis in children.

Im sure you're right, but I still think it is largely fashion-look at the exponential rise in referrals to the Tavistock (of late lamented memory) over the last ten years. I dare say we can all remember that awkward phase as a teenager when you're not sure who you are or where you fit in. That has to be the same for todays youth who are being told, in terms, by adults who should know better that they have a choice between being a boring straight or stunning and brave.
