Two poets and a women’s health comedian did a show yesterday in a Glasgow pub. It was excellent. A writer and a critic who seem to get government funding from the Scottish Arts Council say it was Transphobic. The writer and critic didn’t actually go to the show. Woman word at Blackfriars in Glasgow

Magi Gibson has been posting some of her poems (which were read at the event) on Twitter. They are amazing but I don't think my heart can take the poem about the 9 1/2 year old again - it's devastating.

Gutter, eh. Noted.

Ryan Vance.

What a cock.

So, didn't attend but throwing around unfounded accusations intended to damage an independent business and then telling a woman the words she must say? Bloody idiot!

morningtoncrescent62 · 21/05/2023 22:40

What a nasty, bullying, misogynist of a man, and what nasty, coercive and menacing tweets. Horrible.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 21/05/2023 23:24

They think women gathering is bad for transwomen but I don’t understand why

Gah, this completely escaped my mind!
Did anyone here go? Was it good?

Croneofakind · 22/05/2023 07:37

Why on earth would women even want to speak when we have someone as charming as Ryan to say everything that needs to be said.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 22/05/2023 07:48

It was great, Spicy. They had women doing their own poems from a writing group in the middle.

I don’t know anything about poetry but I want to write some now. I hope they do it again.

There was a lot of laughter, a lot of nodding and some tears. It was well worth a tenner. I hope they do it again

Jenny Lindsay's whole career has been set on fire because of her courage and refusal to call a spade brave and stunning. Elaine Miller was relentlessly bullied during the Fringe and I think will be unlikely to find a space willing to host her this year. Gaun yersel Blackfriars for putting these phenomenal women on.

Whoo those replies are most excellent.

Makes me wish I was on Twitter sometimes.

Pudmyboy · 22/05/2023 10:33

I agree @Ourladycheesusedatum ! So heartening that the misogyny is being called out so loudly by so many different people!

SpicyMoth · 22/05/2023 15:48

Great to hear it was so good!!
I hope they do another one so I can catch it next time, I'd really like to show my support!

Boiledbeetle · 22/05/2023 22:20

One of Magi's poem which she read at the weekend.

That's a very hard-hitting poem, thanks Boiled. I have a nasty feeling that the reference to septic tanks concerns Helen Bailey, who was murdered by her husband, Ian Stewart, less than a mile from where I'm sitting. Tragically, Helen met him through a group for bereaved spouses and after his conviction for her killing he was later investigated and found guilty of the murder of his first wife.
