Good old JV

Any chance of a bit more context?

WizardinTraining · 19/05/2023 13:02

I was horrified and disbelieving in equal measures listening to this - how the hell did we get here?

@dunBle discussion about whether teachers have a responsibility to inform parents when kids want to be called different name/use different pronouns etc

dunBle · 19/05/2023 13:05

Oh god, was he doing his usual faux naivety shtick?

Norma27 · 19/05/2023 14:08

He blocked me on twitter the absolute coward. I was discussing my stepdad being knocked down and killed at a pedestrian crossing and how dangerous those rainbow crossings are.

Introducing the feminist Katy Montgomerie! All in favour of keeping secrets from parents - it's like Katy got stuck in Katy's teens!

Badatmostthings · 19/05/2023 16:36

I recommend searching for this on BBC sounds, it was the first item on the show today. I'd be interested to know if anyone has friends or relatives who aren't as up to speed on the debate who heard the segment and what their thoughts were. To someone who hasn't been following this the whole thing must have sounded absolutely bizarre.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/05/2023 16:56

I was pleased to hear the ex Head (very patiently harnessing his toddler voice) when speaking to Katy about Katy's very self interested demand that children are transitioned and alienated from their parents for ... reasons only known to Katy. The Head's repeated point that Cass has said that social transitioning is not a neutral act was well repeated.
The women who phoned in were great. It was much better than usual discussions.
Having also seen the carefully constructed BBC news reports about schools today I assume that this is part of a carefully constructed response to their "Oh fuck" moment as they realise the BBC have been responsible for silencing all this for years, allowing mainly dodgy individuals airtime and openly pushing this at young children.

Whyjustwhy123 · 19/05/2023 17:53

Sorry! Was working and just assumed that people would know what I was referring to.

I thought they JV actually allowed the head to share his views.

Isn't it rare to hear an adult speaking out about the dangers of transitioning children. And the other Katie (another transwoman mysteriously over keen on alienating children from their parents) was also challenged. I suspect that's a first for Vine to challenge a member of the sacred caste.

Wellies54 · 19/05/2023 18:35

Just listened back to this. Well done to Rachael and Jade! Mothers fiercely safeguarding children! What wasn't picked up on by JV or the head teacher is that when KM talked about parents harming LGBT kids what they actually meant was parents who say 'no you're not a girl, you're a boy'. Parents are not routinely being violent or harming their kids over this! The framing of basic safeguarding as abuse and framing abuse as safeguarding is one of the most evil aspects of this whole situation.

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2023 19:13

The thing that always strikes me about Montgomerie, Bergdorf et al is that they talk about children and their needs but they have no experience of kids. They don't have any, probably never will, and don't work with them. All they have is their personal nostalgic tick box 'this would have made the world of difference to me' that they put on other people.

Ignore.

Indeed - and when people are discussing children, they switch all the time to talking about adults. because that is all they know about. Why they get such a platform to discuss children, let alone to weigh in with their ignorance of child healthcare, psychology etc I never understand. Sacred caste who can't be challenged, no matter how profound the ignorance I suppose.

A listener “Sam” emails:
“I’m the parent of a 5 and an 8 year old. If children know their parents are anti-trans and the school is required to share they won’t then talk to their teacher if they are questioning their identity - that will inevitably lead to poor mental health and sadly more suicide attempts."

Suicide attempts have to be brought into every conversation even when talking about young children.

bellac11 · 19/05/2023 20:01

I heard a very small snippet of the show but heard JV refer to 'birth gender' and if a child feels different to their 'birth gender'

It drives me mad

WizardinTraining · 19/05/2023 20:15

I don’t follow this stuff but it does concern me. Is Katy who spoke on the show well known then? I didn’t agree with their approach at all

Yes Monty is very well known on Twitter

discussion about whether teachers have a responsibility to inform parents when kids want to be called different name/use different pronouns etc

I don't teach DC under 18, but even I know that this contravenes Every.Single.Basic.Principle of safeguarding.

I heard an online talk by the woman who set up the Safe Schools Alliance. She was illuminating about how safeguarding needs to be put at the centre of all our organisations for and interactions with children. That no-one gets a free pass. Very sobering & food for thought.

GailBlancheViola · 20/05/2023 15:15

Katie Montgomerie described as a feminist - no they are not.
