Great, thank you

Oh, wow, that's really interesting. Not what I was expecting but places gender issues in a much larger context, and I would argue also shows to some extent why it is the left that has taken up this set of ideas - how they are consistent with other things the left believes.

Dwtes8 · 18/05/2023 18:06

Yes that is exactly what I think. The demand for Self ID was always going to happen because it’s logically consistent with every foundational principle the left believes in and it is just something slowly working it’s way to it’s logical conclusion.

It also means the left are not going to give up and if the Labour Party concludes that this issue is just too unpopular with the public to pursue at the moment then they can shelve it for a while slowly and quietly advance it in the institutions in which they have influence instead and try again to pass it into law in 5 or 10 years.

And yet I think most feminists will vote for left wing parties and more women will vote Labour than men. So I think we will eventually get self ID and gender replacing sex in equities legislation because most women will vote for it.

I believe trans conversion ban made into law is the key legislation, allied to hate speech laws so tightly regulated that, both "Waitful watching" therapy and any discussion of a GC nature in society and online, will be so chilled, that only one certain outcome is engineered.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 18/05/2023 20:47

Really interesting read.

I think you are right. But I also think it’s no accident that all mainstream left and centre left parties support this. Little communist parties are of course different because they are modern materialists not post modern liberal leftists.

I also think that women will disproportionately vote for these parties. I don’t understand why.

According to another post here, the Lib-dems are distancing themselves from the TWAW stance. Hopefully it will be a Tory policy that dies with them. Although I still hope Sunak protects women's rights to single sex spaces before he goes.

Yeoo!

I'm not quite so pessimistic; although it is going to take a couple of decades to unravel. Even is self Id is eventually passed, by that time the many negative consequences will have become even more apparent and at that stage there will have to be new legislation to ensure that the primacy of biological sex is honoured.

It does have a life and curve of its own though.....we are simply having going through the stages until the matter can be be more fully understood and resolved.

Rightsraptor · 19/05/2023 09:11

It's good to have such an articulate post laying it all out.

I've been in this for over 5 years now and have become aware over that time how huge this is, and how the 'personal choice' argument is a whitewash. But I have had trouble joining the dots, even though I knew transhumanism was there somewhere.

Mary H doesn't discuss the role of religion, apart from a vague acknowledgement of our Christian heritage in the UK. I'm not a Christian but, from observation I'd say the CofE has been very weak on this, especially under Justin Welby. We humans are supposed to have been made in God's image but the CofE seems to be happily embracing the idea of that image being incorrect.

DemiColon · 19/05/2023 10:36

The CofE has absolutly been weak. They once had a pretty strong intellectual tradition, particularly around the turn of the last century up through to the 50s. Mind you many of their really good minds went to the Catholics at that time too. They have entirely left that behind now. Even people like RW who was supposed to be an intellectual powerhouse seems to have zero real thinking on these issues.

The beginning of the end for CoE was that Festival Of Light in early 70s where a certain Peter Tatchell first came to prominence by invading the event, throwing vibrators and porn mags around the venue. "Shock and awe" indeed.

Fifty years later...
