Hi, I think in the past I've seen messages from people who are based in and around Forest Hill, Sydenham, Brockley, Dulwich etc. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of how the local secondary schools approach kids who are questionning their gender. My child is transitioning into secondary school in September and is already having discussions with their peers about gender and non binary. As my child is autistic and generally does not conform to gender stereotypes, I want to ensure I'm fully prepared for secondary school so I can support them in the best way possible. I emailed schools about it when we were looking but noone responded!

I lived in Brockley up until last year. I had a job interview at Prendergast Hilly Fields at the time of the GGR consultation and there were posters all around the school telling the girls to respond to support the bill, totally against the rules that schools shouldn't be political. (I didn't get the job,but if I had I'd have turned it down). I know anecdotally there are a lot of girls who I'd as non binary or as boys.

All the Prendergast School are run by Leathersellers, which has given sizeable donations to Mermaids in the past, and doubled down when this was questioned.

I don't know if the local non Prendergast Schools are better. The only two schools we were in catchment for were Prendergast, which was one of the reasons we moved.

Judging by the massive protests against the 'fascists' opposing DQST atthe Honor Oak Pub, it's fair to say it's not an area that generally feels safe to be openly GC.
