So it seems that the evidence of the grr fix is coming to light. Chapman was ceo of rape crisis Edinburgh during the passage of the grr Bill even when questioning rape crisis Edinburgh 🤬

Yep I was just about to post - suspended from 1 meeting. Twitter are having a field day

OhHolyJesus · 11/05/2023 12:39

How has this only now come to light? I'm pleased it has and that she has been suspended but that's a shocking oversight given the context.

Shelefttheweb · 11/05/2023 12:45

one meeting? For directing the committee to consider evidence that she herself had been party to as from a neutral source? She had responsibility for basically directing what Rape Crisis Edinburgh said through setting the direction of the organisation in line with her political beliefs. This is corruption.

PronounssheRa · 11/05/2023 12:55

she failed to declare a registered financial interest in Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre before an evidence session of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill.

Nice to see such unbiased evidence being presented before stripping women's rights away

Boiledbeetle · 11/05/2023 13:13

One fucking meeting!
GRR!😬

ChristinaXYZ · 11/05/2023 13:45

Ha! Chickens coming home to roost!

ArabeIIaScott · 11/05/2023 14:13

Good to see at least an acknowledgement that this politician has acted unethically and in a way that is unacceptable and breaks the rules.

I wonder if she ever, ever reflects on her self righteous views and considers that perhaps she's actually an extremist who does harm as well as good?

It is. I wonder if it can be taken further.

RhannionKPSS · 11/05/2023 14:16

A lot of us knew this already but now it’s getting more sunlight which is brilliant. A one meeting suspension is not enough but it’s a start.

spiderplantparty · 11/05/2023 14:20

This is dreadful. Either she didn't know about the rules re conflict of interest, or she chose not to abide by them. I don't know which is worse.

RhannionKPSS · 11/05/2023 14:23

I think it’s the latter, when it comes to Mad Maggie & the Greens they feel the rules don’t apply.

I suspect you're right, there. Self justification has presumably become a reflexive habit.

guinnessguzzler · 11/05/2023 14:33

To be clear; MC has never been CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre but she was their Chief Operating Officer. Not that it makes much difference but just to keep our facts straight.

No chance

Sorry, I should have said, just to keep our facts straight and her career in proportion 😁

RhannionKPSS · 11/05/2023 15:18

Mad Maggie probably put in a”word “ for MW for the CEO post.

Hoardasurass · 11/05/2023 16:04

My apologies about the ceo coo confusion must try and keep a better eye on the auto correct on my phone

Way too light a sanction for the far reaching impact of her conflict of interest.
The article makes it clear that her question pivoted the discussion in a way that favoured her own undeclared interests. I hope this snowballs as a story - e.g. from the leniency angle - so that the depth of the corruption can be called out.

Forwarder · 11/05/2023 16:58

Was she working for Rape Crisis Edinburgh at the same time as sitting on the committee as an MSP?

It reads like she was a former employee by that point, but pally with the person she was questioning.

IwantToRetire · 11/05/2023 17:01

I'm sure this was said at the time.

Is it that they have only just got round (in response to complaints) to accept that she did something wrong, but as it was only a tiny bit naughty (in their opinion) she will only be on the naughty step for a little while?

Not quite; she was COO in 2021 and interviewed the CEO as a member of the committee in early 2022.
