Labour snubs its only Kent MP in Medway visit ahead of local election

Labour has come under fire after snubbing its only MP in Kent during a visit to Medway on the eve of the local elections.

Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner did not extend an invite to Rosie Duffield, the party’s MP for Canterbury, when they visited her county on Wednesday.

On learning of Sir Keir’s visit last month, Ms Duffield wrote: “What a shame he didn’t see fit to tell his only Kent MP about his first visit to our county.”

Earlier this year, Ms Duffield likened being in the Labour Party to an abusive relationship after being “shouted down” by colleagues over trans issues.

From an article on the yahoo website but taken from the Telegraph

.

This is the Labour Party that gained hundreds of votes from students through endlessly ridiculing the Lib Dems for not following up on election promises about students fees, that has now said it will abandon its pledge to get rid of student fees. Conveniently doing this before an actual election because they know, as they did at the time they pointed the finger at the Lib Dems, it was always a hollow promise as no government made up of any party can afford to do this.

And yet despite this major U turn is still hanging onto its "student friendly" plege to bring in self id. And is so immature in working as a party, that it can stoop to this sort of school yard gang culture. Dont talk to her, she's not in our gang.

They are sickening.

And they want us to believe they are a better choice than the Tories, although equally covered in rule breaking through their appointment of Sue Gray.

Wasn't planning to vote Labour anyway, but I'll be studying the last set of stats and voting to keep them out, rather than spoiling my ballot.

Fuck you, Labour.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 04/05/2023 08:20

"Fuck you, Labour" indeed. At this point what is left to say.
Kier clearly doesn't support Rosie and by extension her position.
He stands with the 0.01% women who have a penis - as per his definition.

I think there is a thread about this already as the visit happened last month.

Transparent2 · 04/05/2023 16:18

Has any journalist yet asked Keir Starmer if he is a man? And how he knows?

I must admit I posted without properly registering it was about a meeting a month ago.

But as this seemed to come out of a recent interview with her I thought it would be good to have it as a FWR thread title, firstly to support her, and secondly because google always gives mumsnet threads quite high search ratings so hoped this would attention. Though might have been better to have her name in the title.

I thought that but the Telegraph article is dated 3 May:

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2023/05/03/labour-local-election-medway-mp-snub-rosie-duffield/

"Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner did not extend an invite to Rosie Duffield, the party’s MP for Canterbury, when they visited her county on Wednesday.
Ms Duffieldd has regularly clashed with the party leadership over her gender critical viewss, accusing it of dismissing concerns over women’s rights as a culture war issue.
She said on Twitter she had “absolutely not” received an invite to either Wednesday’s event or the Labour leader’ss_ previous trip to Kent on April 1."

Two trips to Kent. Two times Duffield wasn't part of the Labour entourage. I think?

I cant find another thread about the snub - just so astonishing that they would do this publicly as a party - but suspect it got mentioned as there are quite a few threads about her.

They visited twice. They've sent Rosie a very clear message. Vile people. Well they didn't get my vote today and I told them why.

Not only do the majority of Labour politicians have a very tenous grasp on reality, they're acting like playground bullies.

I wouldn't want them running my toddler group with that level of spitefulness let alone the country.

IwantToRetire · 04/05/2023 16:51

Spitefulness - exactly.

Funny that the Tories are always called the Nasty Party (and not saying that they too aren't above bullying and worse) but nobody ever says that about Labour. And its not even that they have an even vaguely socialist agenda. Most of their votes and traditional loyalty votes.

Not that it would have come up today, but was just wondering what people in Rosie's constituency will do come elections? As a vote for her can be seen as a green light for labour's brave new cervix Havers world, yet a vote against her could be read as disapproval for her stance.
Seems like a double bind to me.
