No idea if anyone will take any notice, probably not.

No of course not. The person processing this form has no control over the form itself. We often used scanners so it would just register the tick box. But if it made you feel better, then it’s a positive for you!

Guess I need to email/write to them as well. 😁

Good for you. Sex is what matters for the equality act. Sex is what matters for biology, and thus clinical practice. If they want to record gender in addition, that is absolutely fine. But only recording gender is ridiculous in that context.

Someone will see it and realise people feel like this so I would like to think you may have had a small impact OP.

I certainly do this every time I encounter it. May be next time you could mention it in person to whoever is collecting the form and perhaps this time you could follow up with an email?

I do think we need to be calling out this crap every time we see it.

Well done keep it up.

I started a thread a short while ago because much to my surprise a NHS Trust whose monitoring forms I have been filling in over a number of years had always had this quesiton about gender.

So like you I crossed out, commentated (but never wrote).

And last week got the monitoring form and it had two questions:
What is your sex?
What is your gender identity?

I realise that many, many others had commented but was pleased to see a changed had been made.

So I urge everyone to keep the comments going.

Do do this to lots of application monitoring forms. No idea of anyone has noticed but it's not stopped me being appointed.

DustyLee123 · 25/04/2023 18:09

I’ve stopped asking the question at work since it changed to gender.

Stemmingthetide · 25/04/2023 18:41

I tick prefer to self describe and state I do not have a gender my sex is female.

SpeedSnap · 25/04/2023 18:46

I don't complete these optional forms anymore. The data is bullshit now, so why waste their resources and mine.

PomegranateOfPersephone · 25/04/2023 18:48

Data entry clerks do notice and are sometimes in a position to pass it on. Keep expressing your opinions on paper forms. If there is a space for writing comments, make sure to put it in there too, sometimes data entry clerks are only able to input what is in the comments box. If the forms are on paper rather than a screen there is often a reason such as they have to be processed by a human being rather than scanned.

Thank you for doing it OP.
