Is it acceptable (or legal) to take a video recording in an Unisex bathroom without seeking consent?

There's a video on social media where a woman uses an Unisex toilet for the first time in her life and appears both fascinated and concerned for women's safety at the same time.

She enters filming and interviews the men and women she passes. They smile and positively respond but this could be because of nervousness at having a camera pointed at them.

I have used Unisex toilets and have never had any problems. I would however take objection to someone entering and filming, and I would be reporting it to the store security and police.

It is not illegal to film folk in a public space!

Many toilets are not public at all - they are private spaces open to students, customers, etc. The football ground is interesting as that is a private space for ticket holders only. But perhaps the nature of the event changes what you can expect regarding filming?

Yes, rather few toilets are actual "public spaces" as far as UK filming laws go, as they are in privately owned buildings. The exception would be local authority-run public toilets.

For filming, you can't compare toilets and changing rooms - in a changing room you expect nudity, but in toilets you'd largely expect that to be confined to the cubicles (especially in mixed sex toilets)

Filming in the 'lobby' area of a toilet is not ideal, but I'm pretty sure it's not blanket illegal, and would depend on the policy of the place (and country legalities of course)

In fact, thinking that through, I would think that nudity in a mixed-sex toilet communal area would be illegal.

I suspect that now that multiple user mixed sex toilets are a thing, the sink/vestibule area is not considered to be ‘private’ in the way the same bit behind a door marked.

As anyone can enter a mixed sex facility the sink area is no more private than anywhere else in the building, and as women are statistically at significantly increased risk in mixed sex toilets, CCTV is probably sensible (and legal everywhere outside the cubicle).

And if CCTV can be used in a space, the legal arguments against citizens using their own recording device in the same area are going to be incredibly flimsy!
