This may only be of interest if you're into cycling forums.

I've been following an epic (3300+ posts) thread
(https://ncap.cyclechat.net/threads/gender-again-sorry.273/page-220#post-58733 is as good a place as any to drop you into it) where you'll see the usual TRA tactics on full display. Cycling is pretty captured.

I'm betting the person doing almost all the gender critical heavy lifting is here on FWR, though I don't expect her to out herself if she is. I just wanted to thank her for tirelessly fighting the good fight, and keeping her cool.

Gender again. Sorry!

There are only two reproductive pathways which all mamals develop along: Female and Male. Under normal circumstances the female body is the one set up to create large gametes, the male small gametes. And if you think that this simple observable scient...

As a senior cyclist - second hand hybrid - I find this depressing.
Brava GC cyclist woman.

AnythingToSay · 21/04/2023 15:36

A large contingent of bearded hipster manbabies in cycling, so I'm not surprised it's heavily captured.

Well done to AuroraSaab and all tireless GC women who spread common sense among their individual communities.

Laladybird · 21/04/2023 18:02

Well done that woman. Does she need support from the MN FWR contingent?

You have to register on the main site and establish yourself a little before being given access to the political board, which I think is a wise administrative decision.

It's just a shame she doesn't have more support from those already there. I'd throw in with her, but I was banned after trying to start a thread about gender back before they created this unmoderated space; you might say I didn't live to see the promised land.

She’s been chipping away for several years now. I chip away in other territory.
I think cycling is less captured than it immediately appears from that thread (see also various on road.cc) because the most vociferous commenters are those of the shouty, yet be kind variety. However, I see comments elsewhere, particularly a growing number on Twitter but see the TT forum that clearly believe in fairness over woo. However as usual the majority are silent because they’re either scared or don’t care.
Personally, I think bringing in a Mumsnet posse might be counterproductive because it could attract more TRAs, and lead to the space being shut down. It’s better it’s there to be read than not at all.
There’s another forum where it is confined to one thread and the BKs are merciless. Any comments elsewhere on the board are shut down.

Oh OP, I’ve just realised who you are😁

Oh OP, I’ve just realised who you are😁

I appreciate the smiley (ironically enough 🙃).

You may be right that's it's not as bad as it sometimes seems; I'm doubtless a little biased by my experiences, including on the single-thread forum I think you're referring to.

I couldn't do what she does, post after post of painstaking rebuttal backed up by what must be an incredible database between her ears; I enjoy freewheeling too much. She strikes me as more fixed-gear.

Yes I think you'd posted on that one topic thread last year; there are a couple of people taking it on more recently but getting abuse for doing so. That in itself exposes the BK contingent as not very kind at all actually.
Back to the original thread, personally I'm not sure about circular arguments with the same crowd. However, the silent watching majority may change their minds.

CyclingSam · 23/04/2023 14:27

@Brevet1000 "Personally, I think bringing in a Mumsnet posse might be counterproductive"

I agree, though I don't think there's a danger of that anyway. I'm surprised the Venn diagram of CC and FWR even scooped up an Audaxer.

"the majority are silent because they’re either scared or don’t care"

This from @NecessaryScene sometimes comes to mind.

"the BKs are merciless"

It's the next level of kindness.

"I'm not sure about circular arguments with the same crowd."

I haven't RTFT in its entirety. At one point I stepped out for oh about a thousand posts; when I went back in, it was as if I'd never left.

PS. It amused me to mark the attached as a "Sensitive image".

They are still going around the same circles on there.

CyclingSam · 18/04/2025 18:12

It reminds me of a Möbius strip.

Late last year I managed to stay briefly registered and start a thread with the eventual Supreme Court ruling in mind. Pity nobody was kind enough to bump it on judgment day.

This is a good opportunity to replay one of my favourite Andrew Doyle clips:
