This deserves a wider audience.

It covers a lot of ground beyond male violence, but I want to add a content warning for a graphic description of the horrific and heartbreaking 1993 murder of 13-year-old Ebony Nicole Williams.

Black Women’s Caucus Statement Against Gender Ideology | WDI USA

We, the members of the Black Women’s Caucus of Women’s Declaration International USA, believe that it is crucial for Black Women to denounce gender identity ideology. This ideology promotes the […]

Brilliant statement but very sobering to read.

Absolutely shocking statistics about male violence against black women and absolutely damning that all the politicians bleating on about 'trans rights' - which affect a tiny tiny minority and yet are talked about endlessly - are not instead talking about the much bigger problem of male violence against black women. Some of which will be made worse by allowing male bodies in female spaces. These 'progressives' are ACTIVELY making violence against black women WORSE. Deliberately, and I bet they know it.

And those who gave any time at all to Ebony Nicole Williams' murderer just because he put on a dress, giving him a place on an advisory committee? Shame on you. He committed male crimes and should be recognised as the murderous male he is - he should NEVER have been out of jail and I hope he wasn't incarcerated with any women but particularly black women. If he was that constitutes torture of those women by the state given the nature of his crime - driven by misogyny and racism- quite a clear human rights violation.

BelleHathor · 21/04/2023 14:52

Thanks for sharing. Ebony Nicole Williams is how I originally discovered Mumsnet 12 years ago.

Laverne Cox promoted her murderer as a victimised Transgender prisoner, with no mention of Ebony. I kept reading articles in the liberal media omitting to mention her nor the horrendous crime (gang members rarely "snitch").

The beginning of the mass gaslighting in society.

It was only Lipstickalley, Gallus Mags blog and here that remembered her and discussed it. Flowers

Very powerful and sobering statement, congratulations to the Black Women's Caucus for publishing it. Not many organisations have the courage to be make such an unequivocal argument.

What is this institution? Is it likely to be listened to? I hope so!

It's the Black Women's Caucus of the U.S. chapter of Women's Declaration International, the global organization that authored and promotes the Declaration on Women's Sex-Based Rights. They produce Feminist Question Time every Saturday, if you're familiar with that.

Is it likely to be listened to? I hope so.

BelleHathor, wow, 12 years in this! How do you keep your sanity? I started becoming aware circa 2016 and feel like one of those zombies in the roller coaster meme for sure.

For everyone who doesn't know, Ebony's murderer is now OUT of prison: https://reduxx.info/transgender-child-killer-released-from-prison-threatens-terfs-on-social-media/

Absolutely shocking.

Transgender Child Killer Released from Prison, Threatens "TERFs" on Social Media - Reduxx

A social media account harassing, impersonating, and threatening women critical of gender ideology appears to belong to a trans-identified male convicted of the brutal torture and murder of a 13-year-old child. On October 24, Reduxx reported that Synth...

I have to admit I don’t understand.
In the article several men are mentioned who have killed and/or sexually abused women and children. And some of them are out of prison after as little as 6 years (different countries, I gathered).

How? How is that ok? How can they be out so soon?
And not at all rehabilitated by the sounds of it.

Because Black women are seen as causing our own rapes/abuse. We are seen as aggressive, not really women, manly, not vulnerable etc. Black girls are “adultified” and treated as years older than they are. So a 13 year old Black girl will be seen as an adult who provoked a man and not an innocent victim. This goes back to enslavement where we were made rapeable.

That statement will either be ignored or racists will claim the Black women got infiltrated by white terfs or something. Irrelevant screeching about how JK never supported Black women and is racist because of house elves will ensue.

Noicant · 21/04/2023 21:40

Ebony 💐 just a child, thats fucking horrific. Poor girl.

Timely and powerful - thankyou BWC💐

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 21/04/2023 23:12

Too true, because gender identity ideology affects black and poor women more than the middle class women handmaidens.

nilsmousehammer · 22/04/2023 06:35

It does. And the absolute naivety of those women with the louder voices to the reality of women not as privileged as them is apparent in the never ending 'I have no problem stripping my kit off and weeing in front of any male who happens to be around' toilet threads. There is just no blip on the radar that women exist who are Not Like Them. Blank looks. Let them eat cake.

Because women don't matter and black women matter even less than white women.

Mezmer · 22/04/2023 07:05

This is USA though right? With different cultural issues surrounding race and a different judiciary system to UK and attitude to trans rights?

To my shame, I would think of women with a greater desire/need for sex segregation- Muslims, for example- and hadn't considered some women being at greater risk of crime.

I'm shocked anew whenever I see statistics about the greater inequity experienced by black women.

This is a stunningly powerful piece- one would hope it were hard to ignore.

It's crazy isn't it. Back then I had a 12 month old DD and thought that Feminism had achieved equality ha ha ha!

I read some of the posts warning about what was going on and thought nah "that'll never happen", then it did and those posters shouting about the "emperor having no clothes" turned out to be correct.
There was a forced erasure & redefinition of women happening and we were never considered or consulted.
Anyone could identify as they wanted, biological reality be damned and to acknowledge reality could lose your job or result in violence. It was illogical, I can't identify out of my Black skin to avoid racism, but people were arguing that humans could change sex!

But it was the erasure of Ebony by so many so called liberal papers that opened my eyes. It was OK to erase her from history and retraumatise her family 20 years later to advance an agenda. It was evil. It opened my eyes to the privilege of people handing away hard won women's rights as it would never affect them. Abused women unable to go to shelters as they're now mixed sex.

So when you do get wary, remember that the Emperor does have no clothes on and more people can see it and we are standing on the shoulders of giants who saw all this coming!

Littlesprouts · 22/04/2023 08:55

We can’t teach our daughters the lie that we can be born in the wrong body and expect them to feel comfortable with their skin color, hair texture, or other bodily features. It is against our best interest as Black women to support gender ideology and we urge other Black women to support women’s rights, instead.

What a powerful statement. I hope people take the time to understand this.

turbonerd · 22/04/2023 09:19

@Misstache it is awful. The «she asked for it» is amplified for Black women.

I will never understand why human beings lives are not prioritised in our Justice systems.

Very glad this got some traction on Twitter and I hope it helps turn the tide.

@ArabeIIaScott
I read that. No words. It is not possible to understand. I remember the trial of that Brook-rapist. The judge was oh so worried about the future of the rapist.

Not one thought for the victim of his actions, just like this case in Scotland.
The years of fear ahead of her. The years of hating oneself for all the wrong choices one took that «let» this man rape you. The physical injuries, that are there and sort of Open up again every so often. The inability to sleep, to trust. Telling and re-telling the story but those who can do anything about it choose not to.
Being given many different pills to treat «depression», the ill health after those pills because they don’t work because you are not depressed you are fucking hurt by someone.

Sorry, I Get The rage all the time now. And it enrages me even more when these rapes are facilitated by the Be Kind fuckers who have no idea.

I really, really hope the tide is turning so we can start using our energy to make beneficial changes, not just fighting like mad not to lose even more.
