GC in NI: which party to vote for?

As local council elections are coming up, and a general election doesn't look far behind I am contemplating who to vote for. I am a lifelong Alliance voter but I've seen reports on Twitter of an Alliance councillor on the TRA side of LWS at the weekend and he's blocking anyone GC. Has the discussion actually been had with any of the parties what their thoughts are regarding gender that anyone knows of? I'm from a unionist background but I find myself less enamoured with the union as I grow older so I'm in a middle ground on that score.

@GiveMyHeadPeaceffs I will too, but I'll only end up with the DUP agreeing that they don't and voting for them is out of the question Confused there is no party for the average normal person here. I might get contact Stephen Nolan and ask him to look into this. He did that Stonewall investigation so he might take it on.

I’d love it if The Nolan Show did a series of interviews with politicians on this issue and got them to lay out their thinking on gender identity vs women’s rights so the public could hear it and decide whether or not they want to support it.

Too much of this issue flies beneath public notice cos it’s mostly pushed by lobby groups and NGOs that have an easier time getting access to politicians, whereas the public don’t often get face to face opportunities with politicians (except on doorsteps around election time) and our views are ignored by politicians because the lobbyists are seen as ‘experts’ on this issue. Plus, there’s a lot of the Gordon Brown attitude of ‘these women are ignorant bigots’ among a lot of politicians who feel their thinking is somehow more evolved on the issue than ours.

@UtopiaPlanitia
Unfortunately I think it's too controversial for Nolan to cover even though he did do the stonewall podcast. Listening to mark Simpson and Amanda morris discuss the weekend rally made it quite clear that this is an issue that nobody really wants to touch! Amanda even said something like it was the most contentious issue she's come across and it sounded like her answers were scripted (presumably so she wouldn't say something that may offend someone). She's not someone who usually beats around the bush.

I don't know whether there has been a quiet change but Alliance we're very quiet on Trans Day. No rainbow flags to be seen. I'm quietly hopeful that they may realise that their TWAW stance is a vote loser.

I hate to seem cynical but I doubt they’ve changed their minds, unless it’s extremely recent. They’re probably staying quiet and just hoping no-one asks them about their stance in the run up to the election 😒
