Dr. Phil is a mainstream talk show in the states and feminist Kara Danksy spoke on female erasure, along with Sydney Watson and Ruth Barrett. I was really impressed with Kara's on point, clear and calm message. IMO it was definitely a win for the feminist GC message.

If you want to watch the full segment, WDI taped it in 7 segments here: https://www.youtube.com/@WDI_USA

Thank you! I saw that Kara had done this but didn’t know how to see it.

she is magnificent. 2 million is a lot of talking people, fantastic.

Thanks for sharing that, Kara won that hands down.

Thank you Delphinium that was very interesting. It did seem that it was not an evenly balanced panel though. There seemed to be that academic who I have only ever seen as a TRA there sitting on the ‘side’ of women. It was like a sleight of hand was done by categorising the women as ‘cis’ on ‘one side’ but the reality was she is a TRA.

Even so, the three women who are women’s rights activists were consistent and they were clear.

That individual who rejected being ‘female’ needs to have some significant mental health support to deal with reality I think. They can call themselves whatever they wish to, but they are female. And to reject that seems to stem from deep issues. It is so very harmful and it truly cannot be used consistently for clarity when needed. eg. If they had a neo-phallus but insisted it was called a penis and that they were non-binary with a penis, they risk a health professional making a grave error.

It's not completely straightforward to see all 7 parts. Look here:

This seems like such a potential turning point in the US conversation that I'm actually a little nervous to watch it.

For those who don't know, this episode was taped in August 2022 and has just aired for the first time now. AFAIK the women involved had given up any hope it would ever air at all.

Delphinium20 · 15/04/2023 21:51

I agree Grinitch. Just saw the Bill Maher 4/14 episode where Piers Morgan and Bill rightly explained women's rights to Katie Porter (a Dem rep I really like except she's clueless about trans and sports). The applause and the clear arguments the men made for women's rights (oh yes, the irony) made me hopeful that American media is slowly waking up.

While it may be unfair, American culture and media has big influence around the world.

Also, Piers came across rather logical...so you should keep sending your people across the water. "The British are Coming! The British are Coming!" has a new ring to my ears ;)

Totally agree, Hellofabore. It was unbalanced by putting Dr. Suzy on that side-she clearly has agenda. In a perfect world, I'd have liked to see a GC Black woman athlete up there to explain the double whammy of racism AND misogyny when men like Leah Thomas (WASP, Ivy League, white) enter women's sports.
