Just saw this in my local paper.

So the pub claims it didn’t know what was being shown, but TRAs are still calling for a boycott, while women’s rights campaigners will probably not go back because the bar has disowned and defamed them.

A pretty sensible report there - doesn't use the phrase 'anti trans' anywhere. Cloud Water did not respond when apparently approached for comment, so it's not clear where the story came from - usually a sanctimonious social media post, so it's interesting that if there was one the Telegraph didn't see fit to publish it.

Fair enough if Cloud Water want to throw a strop, I don't think this will make any difference to them or the pub and as a consumer I know I'll swerve them in future just as others will support them.

The impartiality of the Telegraph is refreshing, actually. Makes a change from a local rag's LGBT+ reporter trying to get clicks by trawling social media posts and calling everyone bigots.

I thought times would be tough for businesses what the the CoL crisis and everything but they've decided to do a Bud light anyway. Good luck to them.

That seems a very non committal statement from the pub, I think they have navigated it very well, and kept it fairly neutral.

Littlesprouts · 07/04/2023 18:20

A cursory look doesn't show the brewery making any public statement about this so I am ready to stand corrected. It's still not clear where this story has come from.

If they've made a principled decision behind the scenes to stop supplying somewhere they don't want to, and are not rallying TRAs to get the whole pub shut down forever, that still makes a change.

I thought the pub claimed to be inclusive. That's inclusive meaning: except we exclude women who know their biology, is it?

EmotionalSupportHyena · 07/04/2023 18:58

The pub’s statement is fine, imo. They rented a room out. As long as the room hirers weren’t using the space for criminal activities the pub has no obligation to give a rats arse what was going on in there. In fact, refusing to rent the room to gender critical women could’ve resulted in a discrimination claim against the pub.

Fuck the brewery brand, loads of other options for the pub to chose stock from.

The pub isn’t excluding anyone.

The discriminatory knobheads are the owners of the pub’s suppliers.
