Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Green Party Women under attack again.

The current committee for Green Party Women comprises a majority who were elected after campaigning in support of women's sex based rights and a minority of "inclusive feminists".

The recent decision of the EHRC to examine the issue of sex and gender affects women so GPW tweeted about it from their official account.

This was a thread of 3 moderate, nuanced tweets which said, "We in GPW have differing views on this topic but are committed to well-informed and respectful discourse on the subject" and "GPW is clear that this new information from EHRC should not leave trans ppl without legal protection from discrimination,"

These tweets were enough to get the TRA's within the Green Party frothing at the mouth. They are really gunning for the GC women on the committee.

There have been replies and quote tweets which completely misinterpreted what has been said and complaints have been made.

If anyone is on Twitter, I'm sure your support would be greatly appreciated.
Likes and retweets for the original tweets plus polite, reasoned challenges to some of the more extreme tweets accusing the GC members of GPW of bigotry etc.

Thanks

I have liked it. Twitter is depressingly full of TRAs though.

Not on Twitter so can't comment, but some of those who have don't seem to understand very much at all. Fools.

PatatiPatatras · 07/04/2023 07:13

The green party deserves this meltdown. They've been encouraging mindless word twisting for all their initiatives not just this one. I do hope they go on national TV to state that they do not support sex based spaces because they are anti feminist or anti trans or whatever other bile they froth. and I hope they get nailed to the mast and have to spell out exactly what that means for people on the ground.
I'll bring the popcorn.

Seriously, might be time for those truly interested in environmental and (actual) social justice to split from the greens. Support The Earth Party anyone? Time we took that STEP

Flowerly · 07/04/2023 08:21

Sorry but I think that the GP brought this on itself with its aggressive pushing of this insane ideology.
When I was a teenager they cared about the earth and all of the harms that we wreak upon it as a violent and destructive species, now it's all about trans.
No sympathy.

A Green Party canvasser phoned me yesterday to thank me for my continued membership and support.

I left a year ago, and had a lovely time explaining exactly why I'd ditched the misogynistic shitshow.

He asked for examples of misogyny. Emma Thing, Shahrar Ali, non-men etc etc etc.

GP is now a trans rights party that quite likes the environment, I said. Yes, it has taken up rather a lot of time and energy, he said. But we do believe in healthy debate.

NO, NO YOU DO NOT, I said. You believe in utter and rigid orthodoxy and expel women who disagree.

He didn't argue, thanked me for my honesty and promised to feed it up the chain.

A couple of people have commented that the Green Party have brought this on themselves and deserve the meltdown but I think that's really unfair on the women who are being targeted.

The Green Party has been infiltrated by authoritarian activists who are obsessed with identity politics and support "trans rights"

Most members don't get involved in what's happening on a national level, only a tiny % of members go to Conference and vote on motions. This means that the TRAs have managed to get themselves in positions of power and have got ridiculous motions passed.

But there have always been members who have seen what's going on and have fought back. They want to put environmentalism back at the party and they stand up for Women's Rights.

Anyone in the party who vocally supports women's sex based rights is targeted. Emma Bateman has been expelled for refusing to say that a man can be a woman. Alison Teal, the elected Parliamentary candidate for Sheffield, was put on a no fault suspension after liking a tweet which was critical of Eddie Izzard for using women's toilets.
Many others have also been suspended and 3 members, including Emma, are suing the party.

If feminists show support for gender critical members if the Green Party Women Committee, we aren't supporting the Party, we are supporting women who are putting their heads above the parapet to support Women's sex based rights, knowing that they are operating in a very hostile atmosphere.

@teawamutu Well done for telling him. I bet he's not used to hearing that.
Sadly, whoever he feeds back to probably won't care.

Everyone in the Green party fighting back is doing vital work. When the court cases being fought against sexism in the party come to trial there will be a reckoning. Till then they just have to keep fighting.

ArabellaScott · 07/04/2023 15:57

I had to leave the GP because it is so consumed with this unreasonable position. I wish the brave women all the best, but I think this issue has effectively destroyed the environmental political parties

WarriorN · 08/04/2023 07:54

They're championing Freddie McConnel and Freddie's rights to have their child's birth certificate changed to say they're the father 🙄

WarriorN · 08/04/2023 07:55

I'm remaining. I know so many green terfs, out and secret.

We need as many as possible.
