Just got this email:

I’m writing to let you know that I have decided to retire from practise as a barrister, and to reassure you that this will not affect the appeal against Stonewall.

Being called to the Bar of England and Wales is one of the greatest achievements of my life. Practising for over twenty years at the Criminal Bar has been a responsibility, a privilege, and an honour.

I have resigned from Garden Court Chambers and notified the Bar Council and the Bar Standards Board that I will retire from practise effective 31 March 2023.

As far as the appeal against Stonewall Diversity Limited is concerned, my change of status, from practising to non-practising barrister, changes nothing. The appeal continues.

All best wishes,
Allison

Yes I got one too. I really hope she has something lined up that will allow her to be free of all the crap she has put up with, and that will engage her and make her happy.

Boiledbeetle · 30/03/2023 22:46

I hope whatever she does next is free from discrimination and fills her with joy.

MsGrumpytrousers · 30/03/2023 22:56

Really sad, isn't it?

What Stonewall and their smug minions did to her is disgraceful.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 30/03/2023 22:58

I hope she has got a super raft of fun stuff lined up.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/03/2023 23:00

I too hope it's because better things are coming.

ArabellaScott · 30/03/2023 23:17

Wishing her all good things.

ickky · 30/03/2023 23:18

Oh no, that's a great loss to The Bar. I hope it is so she is free to do something she will love.

RealityFan · 30/03/2023 23:21

Maybe she's joining Posie's Party For Women?

Mollyollydolly · 30/03/2023 23:30

Diversity my arse. They've lost a great woman through bullying. I hope whatever she does next brings her great joy.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/03/2023 23:36

Oh that's sad.

I hope she has something lovely lined up and I wish her all the very best.

ps. Posey's party is called Party OF Women #POW

Turnipworkharder · 30/03/2023 23:50

Wishing Alison much better things to come.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 31/03/2023 00:21

I don’t blame her one bit and I hope she is off to do something that is engaging and well paid - but what a bloody loss for the bar! They had a black, lesbian, working class, survivor TALENT and they lost her. Fucking idiots. Good luck Allison, hope you are appreciated in your next role.

Ofcourseshecan · 31/03/2023 00:49

Yes, I was sad when I read the email. I thought it’s another magnificent woman hounded out of the work she excelled in. But no one should have to sacrifice her life for the cause. I hope Allison’s left to recharge her batteries, take a break and then put her talents to work for something that brings her joy.

Tillytrotter67 · 31/03/2023 01:02

Good luck Alison. I was also sad to read the email.

Steradent · 31/03/2023 01:41

I hope Alison has great fun things lined up also that she wins against Stonewall and Garden Court Chambers.

I hope whatever she does next is free from discrimination and fills her with joy.

Absolutely this ^

Indeed. Garden Court Chambers' loss. Very best wishes for the future, Allison.

Jux · 31/03/2023 02:10

Well, sorry it came to this, but it must have been insupportable working there in the last few years for her, so can't blame her at all. Amazing that she carried on so long. Well done Allison, you did and are doing the right things, and your strength and integrity are extraordinary. We appreciate what you're doing and what you've done. ⭐️

Hope you have some really good, fun things lined up for the immediate future and then something great, worthy of you, for later.

Live your life well, as you have done. Good luck.

Floisme · 31/03/2023 08:12

She's paid a very high price for doing the right thing.
Good luck Allison, you're such a brave, talented woman and, whatever you decide to do next, I'm sure you'll be brilliant at it.
You absolute fools Garden Court Chambers.

Farmageddon · 31/03/2023 08:36

Onward and upward Allison, you are so much better than them.

The tribunal demonstrated to me just how many snivelling idiots work at GCC, so I'm not surprised she can't stand working with them anymore.

loislovesstewie · 31/03/2023 08:43

Well, they have lost one hell of a woman. I wish her success and happiness in whatever she does next.

funnelfan · 31/03/2023 08:50

I was sad to get the email too, and hope it’s a positive decision Alison has taken to move forwards and not one she’s had to take for health or other reasons.

Tallisker · 31/03/2023 13:42

Join us here Allison!

Igmum · 31/03/2023 14:18

So sorry to hear this. She is a great loss to the bar. And yes, I hope far greater and far less stressful things await her. Flowers for you AB

FigRollsAlly · 01/04/2023 11:32

Garden Court showed themselves to be totally undeserving of someone of Allison’s integrity. I’m pleased she has freed herself from that toxic environment and hope she will find life much richer and happier in future. Thank you, Allison, for showing the world what Stonewall really are 💐💐
