Suing the sorority that accepted a transgender woman

7 past and present sorority members are suing a University of Wyoming sorority for admitting a transgender woman.

I've started to think this is the only way forward - lawsuits attract sunlight, publicity and often cost people money!

Several things jumped out - unfair voting procedures, pressure to comply, letting a biological man into a physical and metaphysical space for women, the biological man being intact and attracted to women...same old, same old!

Women Sue University Of Wyoming Sorority For Accepting Transgender Member | Cowboy State Daily

Seven women are suing the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority for admitting a transgender woman into its sorority. The lawsuit says the individual has a profile on Tinder to meet women and "had an erection visible through his leggings" at the sorority house.

And the first two paragraphs are pure gold:

“An adult human male does not become a woman just because he tells others that he has a female ‘gender identity’ and behaves in what he believes to be a stereotypically female manner,” reads a legal complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for Wyoming.

“The Fraternity Council has betrayed the central purpose and mission of Kappa Kappa Gamma by conflating the experience of being a woman with the experience of men engaging in behavior generally associated with women.”

Its like the plot for an 80s/90s slapdash comedy but real. shudder

Skippityboboo · 30/03/2023 08:25

“Mr. Smith has, while watching members enter the sorority house, had an erection visible through his leggings,” the suit says. “Other times, he has had a pillow in his lap.”

“Smith repeatedly questioned the women about what vaginas look like, breast cup size, whether women were considering breast reductions and birth control,”

Langford also sat in the back of a sorority yoga class for an hour in December “and watched the assembled young women flex their bodies,” the suit says.

Says it all really.

SunnieShine · 30/03/2023 08:29

Man. They accepted a man.

BellaAmorosa · 30/03/2023 08:30

Yes. But we're not allowed to say so explicitly on this board.

That summarises the problem with transgenderism as a belief and with using it as the basis of any policy very well.

I hope one of these cases goes all the way to the Supreme Court.

HockeyJock · 30/03/2023 08:37

Those poor young women.

raspberrywine · 30/03/2023 08:39

I am so glad that lawsuits are starting to happen. A win for them means more lawsuits will.be filed. I wouldn't be surprised if the floodgates open at some point. Loss of money and negative publicity are the only things universities /corporations /organisations care about.

BellaAmorosa · 30/03/2023 08:42

I know there is no straightforward answer to this question but I find it so baffling I keep having to ask: What are the women who push this ideology thinking?

Of course. Of course he did. This is just the most ridiculous farce, when will the world wake up to this madness?!

Florissante · 30/03/2023 08:48

Smith is a creep.

FOJN · 30/03/2023 08:57

It's just hit hard this morning that it's 2023 and women are having to fight for women only spaces all over again. This has been going on for so long now that I sometimes forget we are yet another generation of women having to fight for our rights and repeat the work already done by women before us.

ScrollingLeaves · 30/03/2023 08:58

This was a good way of explaining the nonsense of a man saying they are a woman:

The Fraternity Council has betrayed the central purpose and mission of Kappa Kappa Gamma by conflating the experience of being a woman with the experience of men engaging in behavior generally associated with women.”

LakeTiticaca · 30/03/2023 09:05

In the good old days if a man was behaving like this he would be taken away and charged by the police.
If not, male friends/boyfriends of the women concerned would leave him in no doubt of the consequences if he didn't make himself scarce.
How times have changed and not for the better

ScrollingLeaves · 30/03/2023 09:11

I hope they win and that we’ll get to hear about the case.

They have put their complaints so coherently. It would be an outrage if they did not win.

I know there is no straightforward answer to this question but I find it so baffling I keep having to ask: What are the women who push this ideology thinking?

For me, it's 2 interlocking beliefs:

  1. That women are as good as men and focusing on our differences and then emphasising female weakness is another tool of sexist oppression.
  1. That anti-transgender thinking is usually allied with right-wing or conservative beliefs - I am a proud leftwing, progressive person (so initially wanted no part of being a Terf)
2a. Associations advocating on behalf of marginalised gay men and women told me to include trans people. I support the rights of all marginalised people in society so therefore I support trans people.

I have no doubt that in my younger days, I would be happily banging a drum in a NZ park to drown out the evil, Nazi bigot ( 😞 )

I am sure there is room for a separate 'sorority'. They could call it - I dunno - Alpha Gamma Pi or something.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2023 09:20

Arabella Grin

MoltenLasagne · 30/03/2023 09:21

Further information from twitter has stated that the sorority girls were told voting against accepting this man into their sorority would be grounds for expulsion AND that this "evidence of bigotry" would also exclude them from applying for any other sorority.

So basically the girls / women were strong armed into accepting this situation and usual procedures were changed to enable this coercion.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 30/03/2023 09:28

I'm amazed and encouraged they have felt able to object and able to bring this case.

It makes me think of the Women's Institute thread too.

"Does sex really matter if you're making jam" someone asked.

It is hard to put into words but if you're a woman specifically choosing to join a women's group, there are reasons for that. Women have a kind of culture of their own which instantly disappears when a male enters. It is this which I think enrages MRAs/TRAs and is behind their drive to split younger women from older with the lure of faux feminism. They want to stop what would have been an intergenerational thing back when we didn't all move so far from our families.

If I had to be in a group of women with just one or two men, I sure as hell wouldn't choose the men to be straight and sexually aroused by the thought of themselves as women.

Wow!

That is properly appalling. Then again, it goes along the same lines as the US swimming case, where girls were blasted as bigoted if they objected to a huge man with an erection watching them in their changing rooms. The US has gone properly insane over this ideology.

Rightsraptor · 30/03/2023 09:33

Just got the Alpha Gamma Pi! 😀

MassiveWordSalad · 30/03/2023 09:35

Furthermore, this guy had a grade point average of 1.7 and the required GPA for sorority applicants is 2.7. He has been shown blatant favouritism, even ignoring the fact he is a man - a biological woman with his GPA would have had their application thrown out Hmm

Add to this that voting was not anonymous and people were pressured into voting 'kindly' HmmHmm

Good on those women for standing up for themselves.
