Enjoy Grin

(Based on Billy Braggs New England with apologies to Kirsty Maccoll)
So, Mr Bragg, I have something to say
About why you think it’s ok to treat women this way
You’ve forgotten how to listen
You think men are always right
And that everything you think or say
Couldn’t be a pile of shite
You’re living in the past mate
When women had no voice
Nor votes, nor rights (no toilets)
And no feckin choice
Though I expect you are enjoying
Those feelings when you mock
With one hand on your keyboard
And the other one on your cock
Wanking at the thought of women being hated
Nothing more erotic than seeing us berated
Pushed, shoved, punched
Not allowed to think or speak
You want us side-lined
And you’re one reason women peak
Your ego is enormous, unlike your brain
So sit down and listen while I make my feelings plain

New England
I was 64 when I stole this song
Though you stole it too you’ll likely say that it is wrong
You used to be someone who spoke the truth
But that’s all been lost now you’re long in the tooth
And now you’re online virtue signalling
But you never ever lied when you used to sing
Now you’re so far left you’ve turned to right
Caught in the gender cult and spouting their shite

Now you want to change the world
Giving words another meaning
Joining in their predatory shit
Yeah you’d like to change the world
But now women are intervening
And we’re not allowing it

I loved the words that you sang to me
But that was bloody yesterday
And now you’re speaking through your arse
But you don’t get a misogyny pass
Those songs you sang gave people hope
That change would come if we fought en masse
But you’ve let us down and forgotten some facts
That women are half of the working class

You’re not looking for the truth
Yes you do want a new England
One where women have no rights
Yeah you want to change the world
Violent threats in a new England
Are what you all have in your sights

We all know you know what a woman is
Your mum was one and you’re married with kids
It’s not ok to support the men
Who say they are us over and over again

You think you’re being so on trend
But you’ve joined the cult and gone round the bend
Where men can be women and you tell kids lies
That life long medication will improve their lives

Now you want to fuck the world
Giving words another meaning
Just because you think you can
We’re just looking to our rights
Now you don’t think that we are human
Just another woman hating man x4

I'm really sad. I saw Billy before Christmas and he had some really inclusive messages for the audience. I thought he could do a lot of good...

The same guy who thinks women's rights were won at the expense of men, right?

Brilliant! I didn’t know Ali Bee but I think I’m going to love her.

The trans movement isn’t left wing, though. The me-me-me transactivists are about as far away from left wing as you can get. But I suppose they identify as left wing, while not having a socialist thought in their heads ….

Loved that. Has kind of got to me. Am all over the shop after this weekend.

A magnificent song!

@PaleBlueMoonlight you’re not alone. I think we’re all a bit shook but there’s a little it more sunlight shining through and we will win in the end 💐🍷

Excellent reworking of those lyrics.

TangledUpinBlu · 26/03/2023 23:56

Brilliant. The comments on bills twitter over the weekend were very telling and I'm sure not what he was expecting, most calling him out, some for incitement to violence against kjk, only the odd anime pp in support of his ignorant take.

No the tra are not left wing but there is a huge contingent of lefty beardy dudebros like Billy who have been just itching for an excuse to put women in their place and the tra have provided them with the perfect opportunity.

It would be difficult to dislike him
more, but why does she say he stole the song? Am I missing something?

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2023 00:31

I'm not sure, but according to Wikipedia:

The opening lines of the song ("I was 21 years when I wrote this song/I'm 22 now, but I won't be for long") are identical to the opening lines of Paul Simon's song "Leaves That Are Green", which appears on Simon and Garfunkel's 1966 album Sounds of Silence.

[...]

He told a BBC interviewer he [Bragg] "stole" the melody from Thin Lizzy's "Cowboy Song".
