Sorry, I don’t have a share token

Starmer’s promising to address violence against women and girls, while simultaneously facilitating violent men to self-identify into women’s spaces?

I do realise he’s said salf-id is ‘not a priority’, but he’s certainly not suggested he doesn’t support it now, and has definitely supported it in the past.

Also, of course, to make any progress against VAW, he would actually need to know what a woman is….?

Sir Keir Starmer will promise to halve levels of violence against women and girls within a decade as he declares crime is the “unfinished business in my life’s

Good to see so many people in the comments pointing out that if he was at all serious he would start by speaking out in defence of Rosie Duffield.

have you a share token? I can't read it.

Very good point Squirrel, if KS won’t stop his own MP’s abusing women in the chamber of the. HoC (looking at you Lloyd Russell-Moyle) then how much credence can we give his aims to protect women in the wider world?

I heard this on the radio and wondered in their party strategists have realised they have alienated women with their stupid self id policies and are trying to bring women back. I’ll take more than sound bites for them to gain credibility with me, more like a complete u turn on self id and a statement in support of Rosie and perhaps an apology to the women who left the Labour Party because of this issue.

Lostmarblesfinder · 23/03/2023 12:31

How to reduce the unbelievably complex issue of human interpersonal relationships into a political sound bite when you have finally cottoned on to the fact that your party is hand over fist alienating precisely the voters you need to attract. He simply cannot see women, he cannot hear women when they speak to him about women’s issues precisely how he is going to solve any issues that women have.

If he won’t commit to defining women via the reality of biological sex, to protecting women’s rights (and single-sex exceptions), and to de-TRA-ing the CPS & various UK police forces then I fail to see how Labour could implement coherent policies that would be genuinely targeted/effective at protecting and helping women.

You can see the confusion in the Ellie Reeves interview.

I’ve just watched Labour Shadow Minister Sarah Jones on Newsnight discussing KS’s new VAWG strategy. It was a slightly better performance than the minister on JHB’s show but there was still lots of 'em-ing’ and 'uh-ing' and she was low on specifics. And, of course, it being BBC Newsnight, there was no question about whether or not Keir Starmer could define what a women is 🤷‍♀️

This new Labour strategy feels half-baked and underwhelming, and none of the Shadow Ministers that I have seen on the telly are particularly impressive. They are generally a group of non-entities whose names I really can’t remember 15 minutes after I’ve seen it mentioned on the news. I very much wish this was all different and that Labour didn’t have such an obvious woman problem.

For me, as a Lefty, this detoxification strategy, prior to the general election, that hopes to win back middle-aged female voters is not working.

Walkingtheplank · 24/03/2023 00:09

I watched Newsnight too. I didnt get to the end of the Sarah Jones interview as there was too much umming and erring for me, she seemed to think the VAT from private schools was going to fund a hell of a lot of services and she was re-allocating mental health staff and Police officers despite I'm pretty sure saying that they were already over stretched.

And very disappointed that she wasnt asked what a woman actually is.

Ellie Reeves was a cringe fest too.

Where do they get these people?

MissSexyBunion · 24/03/2023 00:19

He doesn't know what a woman is but I know what a load of bollocks is.

They're going to throw this election away as well, aren't they.

How can they be so dim. It makes me want to scream.

greenbackers · 24/03/2023 06:31

I rather assumed that by reforming the GRC the percentage of women affected by VAWG would drop. The numbers overall wouldn't change much but would be spread out across a larger population of 'women'.

@ThisIsMyGCname thank you

FOJN · 24/03/2023 22:11

I need a space to have a sweary vent...

It's just occured to me that the party now claiming they want to make tackling violence against women a priority won't even allow Karen Ingala Smith to become a member.

KIS has spent decades working in this sector and is CEO of Nia, a domestic and sexual violence charity, she is also the woman who started and runs the counting dead women project.

Absolute fucking arseholes.

bootsyjam · 24/03/2023 22:14

Shame he wasn't so keen on protecting all those under age girls in towns across the country while he was literally the person in charge of prosecuting crimes in the UK. Not his fault though. I mean what could he have done whilst being in charge of the service that prosecutes crime across the country. Poor love. I feel his angst.

This.

It’s such an obvious “Let’s placate the angry women” move.

Where is the promotion for Rosie Duffield for being on the right side of history and incredibly brave? Why isn’t she in the shadow Cabinet?
