Humza backtracks on GRR Bill/Section 35

Yousaf had said he'd charge ahead with the Section 35 challenge to the UK government's veto.

But ...

“Obviously, we will take legal advice in the round – you have to do that,” he said. “If you get an unequivocal answer from your lord advocate that says this cannot be won, you would do the responsible thing and not take that to court.”

Neither Forbes nor Regan will force self ID through; neither support it.

Seems the GRR Bill is done and dusted, and will never be seen again.

Humza Yousaf seems to backtrack over fight with UK government on gender recognition bill

But SNP candidate adds that if Scotland were independent, ‘a foreign government’ could not ‘veto our legislation’

I don't trust a word that man says. He spent most of the race insisting that he was the continuity candidate and was all for this bill until the most recent SNP meltdown over membership numbers due to the grr so now he's claiming that he's the person to change the SNP will drop grr and that his most senior msp backers are responsible for the ferries disaster. Even without discussing his track record on the NHS, Education and as justice Secretary (hate crime bill) its clear that the only thing that this man will do for Scottish women if he wins is guarantee that any hope of independence for Scotland in my lifetime will die and I'm not entirely sure that it's a bad thing anymore

Aye, he changes his tune more regularly than a free jukebox.

He's SNP. They say whatever they think will get them the most votes and then just do whatever the hell they like.

I'd like to be optimistic GRR will be dropped but not hopeful.

Fingers crossed, but I'm doubtful that he won't try to weasel his way out of this statement if he becomes FM.

Reverse!

When is the vote? It feels like it’s been going on for months. I know it hasn’t but it feels that way. I’m ready for the meltdown of the nats and splitting of the party so we can get on with whatever is next

TheBiologyStupid · 22/03/2023 22:40

Voting is already underway. Sturgeon held her last cabinet meeting today and the result will be announced on Monday 27 March.

TheBiologyStupid · 22/03/2023 22:45

Oops, meant to add that voting stops at noon on 27 March.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 23/03/2023 01:52

thanks, that’s why I was confused - no more debates but no result

HirplesWithHaggis · 23/03/2023 02:09

It has been noted that his reverse on this matter came after Mike Russell said they wouldn't be allowing members who have already voted to change their votes.

So he hoovered up the TRA vote and the "how dare WM intervene in ScotParl democratic decision" vote, and now hopes for the "Don't like Forbes being a Wee Free" vote along with the "Ash is pals with Salmond" bampots. Sigh.

FREEDOM!!!!!!!!

TheBiologyStupid · 23/03/2023 11:40

Interesting point - thanks, Hirples.
