Just when you thought that they couldn't get any worse they issue new language guidelines
Girl Guides given 'woke' makeover with 'inclusive' language guidance www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11878329/Girl-Guides-given-woke-makeover-new-inclusive-language-guidance.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton

can you summarise? or quote? please- I cant make links work

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/03/2023 19:05

Leaders have also been told to avoid 'age descriptors' such as 'young, old or elderly'

So what does this mean for their Young Leaders?

underneaththeash · 19/03/2023 19:07

I'm not sure that's true. I haven't received anything (and I'm leader in charge of my unit).
I'm quite good at ignoring overly woke stuff, but I would have remembered that.

Tradeup · 19/03/2023 19:08

Men steeped in Gender Ideology took over at the top and of course they want to indoctrinate young girls and women. Women will have to start whole new organizations from scratch at this rate.

Literally in every way bollocks.

TWETMIRF · 19/03/2023 19:13

It's on the website

Stupid document

YomAsalYomBasal · 19/03/2023 19:15

It's hardly woke to say "parents and carers", schools have been doing that for years. And the rest seems pretty sensible too, not sure what your issue is. Maybe stop reading the Daily Mail.

Motorina · 19/03/2023 19:35

Agreed, @YomAsalYomBasal . But it's very woke to say:

"We’re a girl-only space for all girls and young women. We’re also proud to be a trans-inclusive organisation and welcome trans girls and non-binary young people. We know the term ‘girl’ may not cover these young people – and language is of course always evolving. When we can, we adjust our language to be gender neutral. This helps us include all young people who relate to experiences of girlhood and womanhood."

I think that translates as we're a mixed-sex space and we use gender-neutral language to hide that. Shame on you, guides.

I do agree Motorina.

They are very much hiding behind language without wanting to admit they are now mixed sex.

underneaththeash · 19/03/2023 22:03

I think that may be a part of a training process. I've checked with others and no-one has received it as an email. As a document it's clearly written by the usual cheap out of school marketing folk and really It's only that last bit that's annoyingly woke.

But you do all know that the leaders all just ignore it don't you.

EpicChaos · 19/03/2023 22:18

So, just to be clear, does the term " be prepared " now mean guides should be carrying contraceptives when they go to camp?

LittleFingerStrength · 19/03/2023 22:22

An elderly looking sexist women is gaslighting and being very controlling whilst being exclusionary to females, girls young women and Mother's.

LizzieSiddal · 19/03/2023 22:22

”When we can, we adjust our language to be gender neutral. This helps us include all young people who relate to experiences of girlhood and womanhood.”

FFS!!

LittleFingerStrength · 19/03/2023 22:25

I am going to call people elderly and young all day long. I know why they want blurred age language as well as blurred biological sex.

Beamur · 19/03/2023 22:30

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/03/2023 19:05

Well, quite. They have a category of Leader actually defined by being young!
Guides are all over the place on this. They have been much more transparent (excuse the pun) on being trans inclusive and saying loudly 'we're for girls' meaning gender. But now trying to say let's use neutral language. Surely there's no need if you're a proudly girl centered organisation?

underneaththeash · 19/03/2023 22:31

Are you all purposefully ignoring me?

No, they need to make sure they take and wear sturdy pyjamas on residentials.

If they aren't to be called Girl Guides anymore what will they be called?

The gender neutral guides?

Doesn't quite roll off the tongue so well, does it

Melroses · 19/03/2023 23:40

I think they expect to continue to be called Girl Guides tbh.

They just change the meaning of Girl to fit 🤷‍♀️

EpicChaos · 19/03/2023 23:49

Sturdy? @AlisonDonut More like a full set of armour that has been welded solid!
It's scandalous!

The return of the Chastity belt?

mb2512cat · 20/03/2023 19:17

So this means that Girlguiding don’t believe in girls and women being a distinct biological sex class, with their own needs and requirements: the very founding principles of the organisation. There are now only people who ‘relate to the experiences of girlhood and womanhood’. Which is meaningless. And very depressing. This is on top of them replacing the word ‘female’ to ´women’ for all the Unit Roles pdf (a bit of bible for district commissioners so we know who is eligible for what roles). Plus they removed any requirement to alert the DC to the presence of males (however they identify) on overnights from the REN, a huge red flag. Girlguiding are beyond captured. They are evidently enjoying erasing the reality of being female and replacing it with the prioritisation of the feelings of males who want access to female roles spaces.

What's happening to the Brownies? Sea Scouts? Mind you my DD always wanted to join the Cubs since they did exciting things rather than sewing and painting.

Rightsraptor · 20/03/2023 22:09

'All young people who relate to the experiences of girlhood and womanhood'.

I'll be spending the rest of this night and into tomorrow trying to work out what the fuck that even means.

FFS.

Actually the guidance is to avoid age descriptors unless we're talking about children. Young leaders are under the age of 18 and are therefore children. So not actually as all over the place as it might sound.
