I feel astounded that 'people ' deny what women are. Our sons , our daughters know what we are. But they deny us. Viscerally, they know us, but every word in the keyboard, denys us. We are power. We are powerful. That is why they are afraid. I am upset. I have had lots of rum.

A few years ago when they were spouting TWAW, I found it quite useful to confront my then teenage sons with the biological reality of where they came from. Show them their own vernix covered photos.

Never be afraid to point out that every human being on earth was grown within and emerged from a woman's body. The woman's role in producing every human being was of considerably longer duration and of greater importance than that of the man who provided the necessary sperm during sexual intercourse.
This of course means that we are quite likely to be primed to have their best interests (as young people) at heart in quite a visceral way. They deny our biological reality at their peril.

Thank you. That is all. I feel so...angry. Thank you for replying when I feel everything is against me/us. I go to rallies, I protest. I just feel so fucking low. It feels no matter what I do , my sex is against me.

Not all of us are.

Stone by stone, the walls must come tumbling down.

Men can't become women.

Women have the right to single sex spaces.

We won't shut up.

No rum, but bring on the brandy!

TheGodS · 16/03/2023 20:38

Thank you. I'm crying so much at the moment, and I don't cry. Thanking you for buoying me up. I've seriously had enough. I'm going to bite !

I was reading about a son raping his mother! It was only later i understood why my mum didn't want me around my *youngest bro(,he was older than me).
I felt uncomfortable around him

I know OP, I wish I could have drink too after reading that thread but serious histsmine intolerance means I can't.

I am so upset about it and where we are as women, I can't even summon up anger. I'm a CSA survivor and I feel like, but now we're being abused in broad daylight with full approval.

ZeldaFighter · 17/03/2023 13:29

I remember talking to my friend and proudly stating I'm leftwing and I support transwomen because I don't want to be a TERF (ie evil, socially conservative, intolerant, bible-bashing Trump supporter etc)

Then I heard about Lia Thomas race in the USA swimming and breaking women's swimming records. And I looked into what was happening with JKR. And I changed my mind.

I'm a feminist. I stand for women. I don't hate trans people and we should all live in peace as who we are. But a lot of this is just old school misogyny which I have tried to fight all my life - women being shoved aside for men, rewards and opportunities all going to men, language being used to minimise women, etc etc etc

I eventually saw it and changed my mind. Others will too.

Rum is lovely in the Tum! Enjoy.

I think what you are experiencing is the younger generation doing what they do best - challenging the status quo and old ways of looking at the world.

Language changes to adapt to the here and now.

Woman and Man is an inclusive term. It is more so then binary sex.

Those who define themselves as women or men, or even non binary and live in that way experience all aspects of that - dependent on intersectionality of course. The pluses and the minuses.

Personally I love it. As it really challenges partriachal thinking, and those who want to drag us to the ways of the hand maiden. Those calling cis women handmaidens, have no idea of what was being written about. Rather chilling those adopting that book without understanding the messaging.

But hey its lovely. I love how the changing of language to modernity is getting on some peoples nerves, as it doesnt meet their definition of what they knew or thought they knew.

So I certainly would join you in a rum, to a toast to the disruptive influences shaping us all for the better and ripping down the patriarchal and staid systems that have had us all trapped in gender, sex and class boundaries.

Enjoy the anarchy! I certainly do. A toast! :)

youth challenging older ppl - lol yeah right, there’s no way that any of this would have got anywhere without the serious money & clout of entitled middle class men who like dressing as women. They are the patriarchy personified. All the young are doing is reinforcing it restrictive Herero normative gender stereotypes that middle aged ppl like me thought we’d seen off years ago.

In fact the older generations have actually always known how to mobilise youth in their support - look at the Red Guard, deliriously supporting Mao by denouncing their parents & teachers, cheering on as they were humiliated, imprisoned & executed. Youth is easy to harness - so much zeal, so little of the nuance that goes with living

and no women is not a term inclusive of men anymore than cat is inclusive of dog

What a load of word-salady faux-intellectual twaddle. the younger generation doing what they do best - challenging the status quo and old ways of looking at the world - by pretending men can have babies? Jeez, you'd need to be on something stronger than rum to genuinely buy into that.

I love how the changing of language to modernity is getting on some peoples nerves, as it doesnt meet their definition of what they knew or thought they knew.

Changing language is just pomo posturing. Since the dawn of time everyone has known which type of human gestates, births and feeds babies, whatever word you use for that type of human in whatever language. You're right that it is fucking annoying though.

Feminism changes - new perspectives enrich and challenge us all. Misogyny never changes though. Silencing and sidelining woman is always the same old, same old.

Most aspects of gender ideology are not clever or revolutionary, just same old misogyny.

OnTheThames · 17/03/2023 20:52

I peaked several years ago but recently the glut of articles reporting how X raped a woman using ‘her’ penis have seriously shaken me. A whole new level of anger, fear and sorrow that this is where we are.

They don’t respect us. They absolutely fucking hate us. Now they aren’t even trying to hide it.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 17/03/2023 21:05

Chop the word salad however you want.

It doesn't change the fact that there are consequences to being female-bodied in a historically sexist society which are borne only by the female bodied.

Taking away our language to name them, silencing our voices to describe them, and appropriating the rights we have counteract them doesn't make those consequences go away.

Which is why no true feminist, no person who truly believes in the equal rights of female people to live empowered and actualized lives, no person with even the slightest ability to look at the world as it actually is, would ever believe that claiming Womanhood is inclusive of male people is progressive.

@MishyJDI "disruptive influences shaping us all for the better and ripping down the patriarchal and staid systems that have had us all trapped in gender, sex and class boundaries."

Denying female voices in the face of patriarchy is anything but progressive. It does not "rip down" the patriarchy. It is the patriarchy. And there you are, waving your little flag and cheering for it. Your little diatribe about "disruption" and "anarchy" is a sick, sad joke when weighed against the everyday reality of male power and female subjugation.

This.
So many of us recognise it as such because we have faced it before - some of us many many times. It is soo familiar, just dressed up differently.
