Joan Collins is a phenomenon - if you ever get the chance to see the BBC story of her life, take it. It's brilliant. I note the one about her sister Jackie is still on iPlayer but no sign of Joan's... she was a groundbreaker actually and while I think she would be the first to say much of her success was built on the male gaze, she fought for better pay and working conditions for all female actors and did an awful lot of good with the power she took.

Joan has always been a feminist. I've got all her books / memoirs and she is 100% clear on that throughout. She was iconic in the 80s for battling ageism and sexism. I'm glad I grew up in the 'bitch' 80s era when being an ambitious woman who put herself first was considered a good thing.

As for Jackie Collins - Hollywood Wives & Hollywood Husbands are both about the sexual exploitation and rape of young people by film producer predators - so I'm guessing that she knew something about the subject of feminism as well.

I was about to say roughly this but you've put it beautifully.

Joan has been talking about these issues for a looong time. I just re-read her book "Past Imperfect" and it's incredible how little progress we've actually made.

Love her quip years ago, when asked if she was concerned about the age gap between herself and her much younger husband- "Oh well. If he dies, he dies".

I think she ripped that off someone else but who cares, she delivered it so well😂
