Caryl Churchill‘s Top Girls at Liverpool Everyman

This was discussed on R4’s Front Row before transmission was interrupted. It is traditionally an all-female cast.

Male director says “I’m proud to present one of our most diverse casts onstage and - with Caryl’s unstinting support - to also welcome trans and non-binary artists to our cast and creative team.”

I saw this year's ago, when at uni, and loved it. Not really a theatre person but it made a real impression.

I'm not surprised that a production now doesn't have an all female cast. I can't imagine it would have the same impact on me, but I'm probably not who they want to go and see it.

Their sister theatre recently held a 'women's makers market', an asterisk next to the word 'woman' of course, which unsurprisingly revealed:

'* anyone who identifies as a woman'

So, anyone then? Why bother? Why pretend? As soon as they announced Top Girls you could see how it was going to go.

But I would agree that it was an incredibly male dominated episode of Front Row given that it was IWD! Thank goodness for Charlotte Keatley

I think one of the cast is a TW. One of the female cast members identifies as non-binary, which, yes, is considered as under the trans umbrella.
