Do you think that transitioning is due to puberty being distressing? I’d assumed it was more to do with societal constraints of male / female behaviour. The stereotyping we have. I’ll admit I know very little about transitioning. No one personally is or has transitioned. I struggle to get my head around it. I haven’t thought about the puberty aspect but I guess if you’re trying to be gender neutral or stereotypically the opposite gender, then puberty confirms your sex and the whole gender/sex gets muddled. But to then transition, especially surgically must be a whole other level of distress.
There’s a few girls at DD3’s school who are ‘they’ and wear the trouser option of the school uniform - one has changed her name to be more gender neutral. Still girls at a girls school and nothing radical. I think this would be much harder to do for a boy.
I’m also thinking stating pronouns may go some way to shaking off the gender stereotypes. Especially ‘they’.
