Reddit - how come there's no gender critical sub ?

I like to go on Reddit for a bit of light reading. Some of the political discussion is less adversarial and people do agree to differ. What I've noticed is the rabid moderating of any even slightly GC view points. I got banned from one of the labour subs for stating the obvious in a very tactful way, no name calling, just that certain spaces should be for biological woman and that actually there's still discrimination against women pretty much everywhere. I said this once and that's it, I'm banned.
The site seems full of mainly youngish, fairly progressive straight guys falling over themselves to discuss how trans women are at risk of discrimination, abuse, death but cannot accept that women are too, even now. It's like you have to support one or the other. So much abuse at KS too for even daring to question the ideology and you'd think JKR was Eva Braun to hear the hatred. It's so illogical.

I believe it was close to 30,000 women when it was axed by the misogynists at Reddit — the forum Ovarit was created in response.

60,000 and accelerating.

You can see a snapshot of it when it was closed here:

It was gaining loads of members per day. This was after JKR started speaking out more. The whole place was popping.

Yeah, you can see in the stats above the huge uptick after 7th June 2020, when JK Rowling's tweeted "‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people."

It was banned on 12th June, along with a bunch of other "wrongthink" subs. Media attention was mainly on some Trump-related ones, but there was a huge wipe of women's-rights subs at the same time.

All sub-Reddits which allowed discussion of gender critical views were banned as hate speech at about the same time. The gay men's gender critical Reddit was allowed to stay a bit longer.

The Actually Lesbians site appears to be pretty mixed sex. Someone looked at the other Reddits which commenters of that site also visited. The one that was most often visited was the mtf transgender Reddit. This doesn't prove that transwomen might be the majority at the Actually Lesbian site, but it strongly suggests that they are not uncommon.

nepeta · 24/02/2023 16:21

I have seen many women state that they were banned from Reddit for saying that biological sex is real in one comment, with no history about anything else. And most seemingly feminist Reddits have male moderators or transgender moderators.

Reddit is porn site with a sprinkling of other things added to it, and it is certainly misogynistic.

Also, when the gender critical Reddit was banned as hate speech the Detrans Reddit was also banned as hate speech! They had to bring it back as so many journalists wrote about that, but it is severely restricted in what can be debated.

More details on one of the key Reddit mods in the centre of all this here. Lovely chap.

Ah yes, Reddit which also forced the LGBT subreddit to change its definition:

A safe space for GSRM (Gender, Sexual, and Romantic Minority)

QueenHippolyta · 24/02/2023 17:27

@bringmethehorizontal oh for sure the Lesbian subs were taken over by men. I left those too.
Naturally porn is undisturbed. Nothing must get in their way. Disgusting.

I believe there is a gender critical forum on Tattle?

There is.
I know that site gets a lot of hate on here but there's good bits on it.

nepeta · 24/02/2023 17:33

The replacement site for the gender critical Reddit is Ovarit.

Ingenieur · 24/02/2023 19:01

The big GC subs moved to Saidit, which is a less tightly moderated "free speech focused" version of the original Reddit site.

r/gendercritical r/tumblrinaction and r/lgbdropthet moved there afrer the ban.

There is some good engagement there, however they're not super active, MN definitely has a bigger and more active userbase, and also Saidit itself can be something of a Wild West of conspiracy theorists to wade through.

MeanCanadianLady · 24/02/2023 20:36

It was deleted and I was IP banned. A lot of the admins and mods are radical TRA'S. There's a lot of drama about it. Don't expect reddit to be neutral. They are not. They have even banned people who didn't break the rules because of things they were caught saying on other websites such as Facebook or twitter. They are EXTREMELY biased.

PicklesAndTequila · 25/02/2023 03:25

There's a detrans sub which is OK.

miraveille · 25/02/2023 03:44

I was just thinking the same the other day. I even had to mute r/entertainment, which is a fairly innocuous sun about entertainment because it's swallowed the TRA kool aid. Across the whole site it's all still the brave and stunning and trapped in wrong body tropes that I think we've moved past in UK . Sad really

SeulementUneFois · 24/02/2023 13:29

There was one but it was banned.
I think some people went to ?overit (? Spelling).

And said it.com has a GC sub I think. Aimee Challenor deleted the Reddit one. But I thought he'd gone?

nepeta · 25/02/2023 16:27

Ovarit (ovarit.com/all/hot) seems to be the largest of the replacement sites for gender critical on Reddit (outside MN). You can contact the moderators on Twitter to get the code to register if they are still working in beta.

nepeta · 25/02/2023 16:30

That should have been ovarit.com, the link.

That was... enlightening.

I searched high and low looking for gender critical people on reddit, coming up with as many ways to say that I could think up. There are none! So now I've deleted the app, f*ck Reddit. #RedditHatesWomen

OneMorePlant · 26/02/2023 20:59

Gendercritical was a great sub. When reddit banned it some of the moderators made ovarit.com

Ovarit was ok, but it's a "radfem" forum that supposedly welcomes all women. But I left when I saw the radfems bully and harass so many women with different opinions and the mods did nothing. In fact the mods of some circles left the awful comments and banned the women that were getting piled on.

It was like reddit the radfem version. You can see over the 2 years the traffic on it has gone down despite more stuff happening lately. There is a reason for that.

It's majority populated by American teenagers who unfortunately for them are completely brainwashed by gender ideology. I long for the day America and Canada wake the hell up and stop shoving this crap down everyone's throats.

The women who control Ovarit aren't so much radical feminists as Democrats. More like Labour's socfems than radfems. They're still mourning the loss of Hillary.

Though I know this might be getting into "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" territory, at this point.

OneMorePlant · 26/02/2023 21:21

No it was definetely radfem focused. The amount of women being shit on because they saw no problem with shaving or using make up was ridiculous
