Transwoman golfer sues after not being allowed to participate in female competition

I couldn't see another thread.

discgolf.ultiworld.com/2023/02/23/natalie-ryan-files-complaint-against-dgpt-and-pdga/

Quotes:

It alleges that the PDGA’s new rules on the eligibility of transgender women to play in FPO for majors, which block from the competition trans women who have undergone gender-affirming treatment later than the age of 12, were a “direct response to [Ryan’s] success on the DGPT.”

......

According to emails shared with Ultiworld, a lawyer representing the DGPT said that the organization had offered to “permit Natalie Ryan to play in MPO1 this year.”

“Her decision to decline this offer is unfortunate, given the fact that her participation in the MPO would give her a considerable amount of coverage to support current and future endorsements,” wrote the lawyer, Margaret Holland.

Sciacca wrote back that the offer was “insulting and tone deaf.”

As your client well knows, Natalie would be rated at the very bottom of the field if she competed in the MPO division. Moreover, acceptance of that offer would be acceptance of the DGPT’s and the PDGA’s apparent belief that Natalie is not a woman,” he wrote.

Also:
'The lawsuit cites “economic losses, mental suffering, emotional distress, grief, anxiety, humiliation, shock, indignity, and embarrassment.”'

God, I hope some real women start citing this in lawsuits. Maybe the ones who had to change with and compete against Lia Thomas.

Not really relevant, but disc golf is not golf. It's throwing a frisbee on a golf course at a specialist target net, using similar rules to golf to score.

I would hope this case hasn't got a leg to stand on as the PDGA have been clear that this person can play in the mixed competition. The irony being that this person doesn't want to do that because it's usually dominated by men and this person reckons they would be very low placed in those rankings.

Rainbowshit · 24/02/2023 11:18

This was always where it was going to end up once rules were tightened. Let's hope the courts see sense.

BellaAmorosa · 24/02/2023 11:20

I hope Natalie Ryan loses, and gets hit for costs.
The new PDGA rules may well be a response to Ryan's participation but they don't only apply to Ryan.
Also, what an admission - Ryan doesn't want to play in the mixed sex category because Ryan would be rated at the bottom of the division.
The PDGA's apparent belief that Ryan is not a woman is shared by pretty much everyone, I would imagine.

nilsmousehammer · 24/02/2023 12:01

The bottom line comes up again and again that the real issue is 'this invalidates this person's view of themselves'.

Ryan is a transwoman. They are not a woman. Other people cannot be impacted by trying to protect Ryan from reality. Ryan is not more important than they are.

But this is California where self ID has been in place since 2017, and men have already gained access to women's prisons.

Mediocre male doesn't want to play against the other males because they're not good enough to win in their own sex class?

Behold my field of fucks for it is barren ...

Walrussy · 24/02/2023 14:09

Natalie has won over $41k in prize money in the female division apparently. No wonder the male competition doesn't look very appealing.

“But I don’t want to play against men! I’ll lose!!”

Says everything really

So £41k+ prize money taken away from women because Ryan isn't good enough to compete against men.

The female athletes should use for loss of income, emotional distress etc etc.

Male disc golfer points out that Natalie's swift road to glory might not be entirely fair.
