I live in Rosie Duffields constituency. Just had local election door knock from labour party

He asked what my main concerns were. I said my main issue was that i stood with Rosie and felt that Labour, as a party, from the top down, did not offer her enough support. And my main concern was womens safe spaces.

Man said, well, this is local elections and not about that, and that issue is more complicated than you think. What are your concerns, locally?

I said the local council is involved in issues to do with womens safe spaces. Like the womens refuges, the womans changing room at the local pool, etc. All spaces where biological men should not have access and that womens safe spaces was my main concern.

There followed a debate. And his stance is that its not that simple, i am being brainwashed by the right wing media, and that Rosie is in fact, (drumroll please...), mainly being supported by American right wing anti abortion groups.

Arrrrrghhhhhh. So that is where my local labour door knockers are at. Saying Rosies main core of support is American right wing anti abortion groups and i am being fooled by them. Silly, foolish, female me.

Absolutely complain! And add if you have canvassers who believe women are stupid, which is basically what he said to me despite him having no grasp of these concepts, then perhaps you shouldn't let them talk to women voters? And you wonder why you're not winning elections.

To be fair, she’s a dreadful MP so I’m glad to hear the local candidates are distancing themselves from her. I might even vote Labour come the local election after all.

MoltenLasagne · 22/02/2023 20:33

That is shocking, what an example of many of the things wrong with the Labour Party.

ijclark · 22/02/2023 20:38

That she’s still a Labour MP? Absolutely.

Please provide evidence of how dreadful an MP Rosie is.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 22/02/2023 20:50

Rosie seems a brilliant MP to me!
+I really admire the way she has stayed standing despite all efforts to intimidate her.

Sure. I guess first of all she was found to have breached UK GDPR by publicly revealing “special category data” about a constituent without their consent. Which is a major breach of trust for any MP to indulge in when it comes to her constituents.

I suppose I could follow that up with the fact I’ve emailed her THREE times about neo-Nazis threatening and intimidating members of the public inside and outside libraries and asked her to take action/raise it within the party. I’ve still not received a response. Even though I’m a library worker who lives in her constituency.

I guess there’s two reasons to begin with.

Apollo441 · 22/02/2023 21:34

@ijclark So nothing to do with her views on women's rights?

If you have neo Nazis threatening other library users in your place of work why haven’t you called the police? Sounds like you aren’t targeting your complaints particularly effectively, or in a way that protects your service users. 🤷‍♀️

drwitch · 22/02/2023 22:00

Im also in her constituency but left the local labour party because of Corbyn. But locally the party is very split on this I think

Sorry, you think government shouldn’t take steps to protect the public and public sector workers? I mean, that’s certainly a take, but one that seems to be so far to the right it makes Suella Braverman look like a communist.

Oh of course. I think her rejection of feminism is a problem too. Also a bit weird that I sent her evidence of targeted harassment of a female colleague a couple of years back and she didn’t even reply (her colleague’s office did to thank me for raising it though).

PopGoesTheProsecco · 22/02/2023 22:09

I live in her constituency too. Haven’t had a door knock yet - just a leaflet. But if they come knocking…

I agree @drwitch - if the cesspit that is the CRG is anything to go by.

That’s funny. CRG often gets complaints that people aren’t allowed to be racist on there. I do hope that fact isn’t why you think it’s a cesspit?

The mendacious bullshit in this. The executive function of government is to ensure law and order via organs of the state ie the bloody fucking police. If you have harassment supposedly inside a public library - you call the police as first recourse and second recourse. Repeatedly writing to the MP sounds rather like harassment from a far left bully.

Oh dear. Asking your representative to raise concerns with government about the safety of the public is “harassment” now? Are you jot that fussed about women and children being intimidated by neo-Nazis? Bit weird on Mumsnet to come across that kind of argument. Surely you should be arguing that government should ensure they are better protracted? I don’t really understand your argument here.

Oh my word, the typos there. My apologies @mirax, sure you see what I mean though! :)

I had a lib dem man who was excited when I said he could have my vote if he could answer one question.

His excitement didn't last.

He did the same as PP - "that's a national issue"

"no it's not...bus stops and time tables/changing rooms/access to health services/refuges/police/breakfast clubs/playparks etc etc etc etc

He ran away. A grown ass man actually ran away. Without my vote.

Fucking hilarious.

Did he run away though? Or did he just think “oh god, another one of those types that rejects feminism” and walk off rolling his eyes?

ArghRainAgain · 22/02/2023 22:31

I have to laugh at the, "It's complicated" argument.

Where you born with a penis? Yes = man. No = woman.

Is really not difficult at all - hence the reason toddlers understand the concept!

mirax · 22/02/2023 22:34

You seem to have difficulty with thinking IJClark.

  1. Your number one problem is the supposed neo-Nazis who turn up to threaten 'women and children' inside a library. As staff at the library, you would have a protocol to keep users safe and immediately call the police I presume?
  2. Your second problem is the police IF they fail to solve this alleged neo- Nazi infestation.
  3. Of course you follow up with your MP and other sources eg the media if the police is completely inept. Neo-Nazis are threatening library users is pretty serious. A series of letters to the MP sounds pretty effete as a response
  4. I have tremendous difficulty believing 1 and 2 occurred without evidence.

Sex isn’t defined just by genitalia, I’m afraid.

mirax · 22/02/2023 22:37

Reject feminism? Is that you Russell-Moyle?

Of course it isn't - there are chromosomes, reproductive organs, hormones etc.

My point was it is simple to determine and NOTHING to do with gender ideology. But then I think you already knew that.
