My first mean tweet

ScaredGC · 21/02/2023 20:32

I name changed for this because of the sensitive nature.

I've been lurking around twitter and occasionally tweeting in support of detrans and gender critical people as well as some transexuals who are on our side. I finally drew enough attention to myself to get a really nasty "Shut up Terf. I'm going to dox you. You're on the wrong side of history. You're just mad because everyone is moving on and you're still living in the past you middle aged cis bitch."

The account was reported and locked so the tweets are gone but I admit the "You're on the wrong side of history" bit got under my skin.

My history teacher used to open up our history books to the bits about racism and point to the white people protesting black rights with all their awful signs and say "you see those people? They were on the wrong side of history. Don't be like those people."

But I also realize there's really no way to know if you will end up on the right side of history is there? We just do the best we can with the information we have.

My brain is in a full downward spiral catastrophying this tweet.

I'm not really sure my twitter is dox worthy though? I've only got ten followers. Would someone really come after a small fry like me?

I am not a full citizen in the country where I live and I'm scared I'll get deported... My baby and my husband are here. They are full citizens. This is my home. We don't have a lot of money. I don't know if I could cope. Maybe it's just better if I keep my mouth shut. I don't want to lose my family...

Someone please talk some sense into me.

Delete your Twitter and go to bed

PizzaNinja · 21/02/2023 20:39

You’re not on the wrong side of history. Young women are having skin removed from their arms to make a strange sausage-shaped appendage that dangles uselessly between their legs. Men are having their testicles removed and their penises inverted, so they have a wound that they have to work hard to prevent it healing up. Future humans are going to think ‘what the fuck happened there?’😔

BettyFilous · 21/02/2023 20:49

Is it kind and progressive to confine rapists with women who cannot escape?

Is sterilising neurodiverse, abused or gay children OK?

Should an adult human male with a penis have the right to undress in close proximity with female children in a changing room?

Answers:

No, and it breaches the Geneva Convention.

No. Similar fast and loose experimentation landed Nazi doctors in the Hague after the second world war.

No. It’s indecent exposure and in any other circumstance where said male did not claim a special identity he’d be arrested.

It’s not difficult to cut through the “wrong side of history” stuff. There’s so much that’s wrong with what this ideology is used to justify, I don’t lose any sleep over it. It just boggles my mind that other people choose not to see it.

Thank you. And thank you @PizzaNinja you've both helped me come back down to earth a bit. I haven't been in a good state of mind lately. @JaneJeffer may be right. I might née to back off social media until I've worked through some of my issues.

Ignore that person. They say things like that all the time. He can't hurt you.

dunBle · 21/02/2023 21:37

You don't need to delete your twitter, but maybe lock it down for a while. You won't be able to reply publicly, but can still like posts and reply and retweet to your followers.

BlackForestCake · 21/02/2023 21:41

I am not a full citizen in the country where I live and I'm scared I'll get deported...

The people who try to intimidate immigrants out of having and expressing a political opinion are quite clearly the ones who are on the wrong side of history.

Leafstamp · 21/02/2023 21:48

Good advice from PPs. I was pretty upset the first time I got a nasty reply on Twitter so you’re not alone in feeling how you are.

Its hardly happened since, you may find the same, and you’re right, I don’t think they would come after you anyway.

You should always put the well-being of yourself and your family first, but it Roy’s be shame to keep your mouth shut on this important matter that you obviously care about.

Tinysoxxx · 21/02/2023 22:08

You can’t be on the wrong side of history because you are on the right side of nature (which will always ‘win’).
In biological terms, black and white are all people and of course should have the same rights as people.
In biological terms, men and women are different. A woman can not become a man. And vice versa.
Good luck with them ‘moving on’ from millions of years of evolution.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 21/02/2023 22:16

You are on the right side of biology!

I’m pretty sure you won’t be deported for a tweet - although I admit, 2023 is WELL weird 🤷‍♀️

IcakethereforeIam · 21/02/2023 22:25

If history is okay with death and rape threats, I don't want to be on that side.

Nor me.

Sazzasez · 22/02/2023 13:05

You can lock down instead of deleting. It takes the heat off - often a useful thing to do at night as people on different time zones may mass-report. If you’re locked they can’t see you unless you follow.

It’s very distressing to be attacked like that, and it’s intended to be distressing. Take a break & take your time.

I’d say it’s highly unlikely they could actually harm you, but that’s not to say they might not try: goodness knows there’s plenty of malice out there.

As for the right side / wrong side of history - it’s not really for us to say.

Lots of people have believed they were on the right side (including Nazis, anti-Nazis, suffragettes, opponents of suffragettes...). But generally history does not look kindly on those who send death & rape threats, or those who sterilise & mutilate children.

EpicChaos · 22/02/2023 15:52

Whenever i've had a lippy tra, i tweet the words " Chris Chan " at them. The tra's tend melt into the ether then.

DarkOphelia · 22/02/2023 16:07

This makes me think of Kipling's The Gods of the Copybook Headings.

"With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch.
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch.
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings.
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things. ...

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four—
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more."

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 22/02/2023 16:16

In the race analogy which TRAs persist on using and you kind of alluded to, the white people - oppressors - are analogous to males (of any gender ID). The back people -opressed- are analogous to women.

This movement is currently operating as a men's rights movement.

Stop and think about what history actually is. Who tells it? Who is is about? It is not neutral. It is told by the powerful and rewritten to suit dominant narratives. Women's histories are ignored, erased, appropriated or simply entirely missing. Even our system of taking male names at marriage works to disassociate women from their ancestors.

The phrase "the right side of history" becomes meaningless when uttered against a woman, by a male, in this patriarchal world.

picklemewalnuts · 22/02/2023 16:26

What I would suggest is finding out what would make you feel more secure in the country where you live.

BreviloquentBastard · 22/02/2023 16:30

I deleted twitter after I got called a terf and received a death threat for making a sentimental post on the date of Alan Rickman's death. I realised the place is just a cesspool of lunatics and their various echo chambers, it's not worth the mental anguish at all.

nepeta · 22/02/2023 17:03

Twitter really is a cesspool when it comes to this topic and almost anything in politics.

In my first week there I got told I have maggots in my brain, that I am a turnip (okay with that as I like them), that I am a fascist and a Nazi (hilarious considering my actual history on the progressive side in politics. I was also told that all Catholic countries are matriarchies because of virgin Mary worship by a teenager etc.

And I am very mild-mannered, boring, use long words and so on.

I wouldn't take Twitter views on anything too seriously, but I know that being attacked by someone who might be mentally disordered is very frightening, and it is important to have proper defenses against that and do what makes you feel safe.

bagelbagelbagel · 22/02/2023 18:01

You aren't going to fix the problems of the world via Twitter, and it's unhealthy to even try really.
