If you put the NYTimes link into archive dot fo you'll find the full article.

So all these pillocks signed the letter before the article was published?

None of them had read ir

America is heading towards peak idiocy - two rival tribes of utter morons and neither have the intellectual capacity to process anyone else's arguments.

tableauvivant · 16/02/2023 17:34

Great op-ed. About time. I expect there'll be a meltdown over at The Great Orange Satan.

bellac11 · 16/02/2023 17:35

A listers. Well we must pay attention to A listers!!!

So some numpty gets famous for their beauty and acting ability but it suddenly means they're qualified to comment on political issues. Ive never known why we hold famous people up as some sort of fountains of knowledge or truth.

DemiColon · 16/02/2023 17:38

The NYT has tended to be pretty pro gender ideology, overall. The idea that they are biased in nuts.

What I have always found interesting is the comments on trans related articles are often very skeptical of GI in one way or another. The readership seems to have a pretty wide spread of opinions for what is usually considered a liberal paper.

HermioneWeasley · 16/02/2023 17:41

Good for them

donquixotedelamancha · 16/02/2023 17:42

I would suggest that letter's signatories range from B to F listers.

zanahoria · 16/02/2023 17:45

Jameela Jamil

Literally s J lister

MattDamon · 16/02/2023 17:46

The 'A-listers' seem to mostly comprise of a supporting actress known for lying about her illnesses on social media, another actress most of us have never heard of who is trans-ing the gay out of her stepson and using it to further her own career, a well-known actress whose daughter is trans and a male writer/producer known for his sexist, male-centric comedies.

3peassuit · 16/02/2023 17:47

Have the celebs who signed actually pointed out what she said that was anti trans?

Datun · 16/02/2023 17:47

Finally people are rushing to ask what exactly is it that J. K. Rowling has said that is so heinous.

One by one they read it, followed by eh? - that's all completely normal, kind and compassionate.

Exactly what you would expect from a humanitarian who has their own charities and is the best selling author of kids' books.

I sincerely hope those celebrities are actually asked what it is they think she said.

RedToothBrush · 16/02/2023 17:48

Wow. An institutional in the print industry acting sanely based on journalistic integrity and facts not bowing to junior staff members screeching?

And the idiots signing a letter at the mere mention of a name and defamatory rumours rather than reading the article first - journalists (supposedly!) at that too.

ReunitedThorns · 16/02/2023 17:48

So the paper that ran the advert "Imagine Harry Potter without its creator" has actually had a long standing bias against trans people?!?

StephanieSuperpowers · 16/02/2023 17:49

Don't bully them! They shouldn't need to substantiate anything. Substantiation is probably transphobic.

Sadly, this is true. The process of political polarisation has reached its natural final stage where both sides hang off their respective precipices while trying at the same time to close their eyes and cover their ears against any evidence they dislike.

It's so exhausting.

nepeta · 16/02/2023 17:59

I have not seen the list of those who signed this letter. Is there a way of seeing it? I heard that the writer of that dystopian novel where JK Rowling's home is torched down and violence of all types glorified is on the list? The one who just advocated extreme violence on Twitter?

MattDamon · 16/02/2023 18:03

If you filter the NYT article comments by Reader Picks, all the top voted comments are pro-Rowling.

zanahoria · 16/02/2023 18:19

"One by one they read it, followed by eh? - that's all completely normal, kind and compassionate"

Especially in the context of what is happening in Scotland. Her position can be summed up as not wanting to send rapists to women's prisons.

Yes, he signed the "contributors' letter", if we're thinking of the same person ;)

The letter and signatories are at nytletter.com/

TheGreatATuin · 16/02/2023 19:02

Oh interesting. They're busy reverse ferreting away. I seem to recall that they've carefully dipped their toes in terfy waters a few times recently, but until not long ago, they were fully on board with the ideology.
This whole house of cards is collapsing fast

MrsOvertonsWindow · 16/02/2023 19:15

Trying to remember what I said that warranted a deletion? I know my post pointed out the irony of calling the Guardian, NYT, the DfE & Starmer transphobic given their previous uncritical support & even funding for trans groups?
Maybe useful idiots was a bit rude Wink

TheirEminence · 16/02/2023 19:15

This is a most welcome development. Lots of losers announcing on twitter that they will cancel their subscription … because they are just too sensitive to read heinous opinions. Such tender souls …

Delphinium20 · 16/02/2023 19:16

Pamela Paul has written a well reasoned defense of JKRowling and I'm thrilled the NYTimes has published it.
