For anyone unaware of her, she's a Norwegian actress, who fell foul of the newish law in Norway, when she said that she couldn't accept trans "women" as women, on the grounds that they are men.

SinnerBoy · 13/02/2023 12:46

Sorry, "Men can't be lesbians."

ANorweigan artist who said she has been charged by police for saying "men can't be lesbians" faces criminal charges and potential jail time for her comments.

Tonje Gjevjon, a lesbian who competed to represent Norway in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with her group the Hungry Hearts, is in hot water for comments she made on Facebook on October 1, where she complained about Norway's "gender identity politics."

What a relief. I'm sure the authorities realised the optics of a prosecution would be terrible. It's the law that needs to be changed, though.

Clymene · 13/02/2023 13:06

Thank goodness. She must have been so stressed. I think we need a list of countries where lesbians are at risk of state enforced homophobia

BellaAmorosa · 13/02/2023 13:06

And in the meantime, her livelihood has been destroyed and she has been slandered.

Circumferences · 13/02/2023 13:44

Oh wow. I was so troubled by that case. What a relief.

Circumferences · 13/02/2023 13:45

Maybe the fact her case gained such a high international profile helped the police in their decision. Who knows what happens to women under the radar.

Helleofabore · 13/02/2023 13:45

That is a relief. However, what a mess this has caused for her.

And this is a very clear message on just how these types of laws can cause great harm.

nauticant · 13/02/2023 13:48

It's still mission accomplished sending the message out to many women who might be inclined to criticise gender identity ideology who now know that speaking freely could see them being made to suffer for a long period of time.

Thelnebriati · 13/02/2023 13:53

Thats such a relief. I think they must have realised that legally they are on very dodgy ground if they say lesbians cannot exist; I just wish they'd say that out loud. The activists need to hear it being said by people in authority.

ArabellaScott · 13/02/2023 13:53

A relief. But yes, the process is awful enough, even when charges are dropped.

maltravers · 13/02/2023 13:59

The process IS the punishment - get back in your box woman, or be dragged through the press, humiliated and fear for your freedom.

Exactly this.

Ramblingnamechanger · 13/02/2023 14:02

Good news for her, but agree the process is very damaging. However getting support from others must help.
